Aintree 1.30 Random Health Becher Handicap Chase (Grade 3) 3m1f188y

We kick off with probably the most competitive race of the day. 18 horses go to post so it’s no surprise that we’ve taken two against the field here. Mulcahys Hill showed a great attitude to run down Wholestone at Cheltenham and that rival has since followed up so he is a deserved favourite and a danger to all but at the prices we’ve decided to take him on. WALK IN THE MILL (best price 9/1) won this race last year and Robert Walford’s 9yo is just 4lb higher here as he looks to repeat the dose. He clearly relishes tackling these fences having finished fourth in the Grand National behind Tiger Roll and the first-time cheekpieces could bring about further improvement here. He makes plenty of appeal at 9/1! This is likely to be a real test and at a monster price LE BREUIL (best price 25/1) stays all day and is worth including at 25/1! He won the four-miler at the Cheltenham Festival and could outrun his price-tag if getting into a good rhythm early. Others to note include Definitly Red and at this time of year Kimberlite Candy.

Sandown 1.50 Read Road To Cheltenham At racing.tv.com Henry VIII Novices’ Chase (Grade 1) 1m7f119y

I know this is a good race but I’ve been impressed with NUBE NEGRA (best price 11/4) in two starts over fences and I think he can make it 3-3 in this sphere for Dan Skelton despite stepping up to Grade 1 company. He has looked a natural and although short odds to get the job done last time did so impressively and looks like he is only going to improve again. He ticks plenty of boxes in regards to ground, trip and track and I’m struggling to see how he doesn’t go close. Torpillo is definitely a danger. I’m not convinced by Summerville Boy though.

Alan King seems to be having more and more horses in training over jumps now and MIDNIGHTS’ GIFT (best price 11/4) looks another good chance of him bagging a Saturday winner. She was always up with the pace when making a winning debut over hurdles at Fakenham and is expected to improve for that initial experience. She had to be ridden out to prevail but did it with a bit to spare for me and should confirm that form with Break The Rules, who doesn’t jump brilliantly. She is definitely a danger again though and Gavrocheka is also capable of going well.

Sandown 2.25 Jumeirah Hotels And Resorts December Handicap Hurdle (Listed) 1m7f216y

I think it’s safe to say Paul Nicholls holds the key to the race. He saddles both Ashutor and MALAYA (best price 11/2) and it’s the latter I fancy to come out on top. He won a fiercely competitive Imperial Cup over C&D in March and although he was below that level of form when trailing Rouge Vif on chase debut at Market Rasen and again disappointing when down the field at Ascot he looks well handicapped as a result and back over this C&D I’m expecting a big run. Protektorat bumped into a nice prospect in Keen On here last month and should still have more to offer so is a danger while Smarty Wild was also back to form last time and looks a threat.

Aintree 2.40 Virgin Bet Price Boosts Many Clouds Chase (Grade 2) 3m210y

A fascinating clash between two horses you should know well by now! NATIVE RIVER (best price 5/6) won the Gold Cup last year, beating Might Bite, and has that class edge on his rivals for me. The 9yo was third in the King George behind Clan Des Obeaux and was last seen finishing fourth in the big one in March. For me he wasn’t quite at his best last season so given a nice break hopefully we see an improved individual this term. Might Bite is undoubtedly talented but was disappointing last season and has a lot to prove at present. If the front two do disappoint then Black Corton will be there to pick up the pieces but for me the Gold Cup winner in the field should prove the answer. He is just relentless when on song.

Sandown 3.00 Betfair Tingle Creek Chase (Grade 1) 1m7f119y

We were with DEFI DU SEUIL (best price 13/8) at Cheltenham and he certainly delivered, picking up well between horses to assert away from the last. Politologue was giving him 3lb that day so is entitled to go well again but Philip Hobbs 6yo is likely to improve for that and this track suits him well. He is a winning machine and should justify his short price-tag. Un De Sceaux isn’t getting any younger but goes well here as seen when chasing home Altior last season so is respected and at a bigger price Sceau Royal should run his race as has gone well fresh in the past.

Aintree 3.15 Virgin Bet Grand Sefton Handicap Chase (National Course) 2m5f19y

The Sefton is always competitive and it’s no different this year with 14 horses heading to post. Paul Nicholls saddled the winner last year as Warriors Tale ran out victorious under Sean Bowen. He saddles a similarly progressive individual in TOUCH KICK (best price 11/2) and he looked better than ever winning at Fakenham in October. A 7lb rise is fair and he should be bang there. Course specialist Ultragold is respected and the in-form Flying Angel is a threat too but at a bigger price DIDERO VALLIS (best price 10/1) needed the run on return at Ascot and should be spot on for this so is not one to write-off. Others that made the shortlist include Gold Present and to a certain extent Hogan’s Height.

Sandown 3.35 Betfair London National Handicap Chase 3m4f166y

A decent renewal and we’ll be hoping to go out on a high! STEP BACK (best price 6/1) put in a career-best when winning the bet365 Gold Cup over C&D in 2018. His best run last season also came when finishing third in that race in April. He has gone well fresh in the past and has had a wind op since last seen so could resume his progression for a trainer that thinks a lot of him. I think he’s worth chancing at 6/1 and he’s my only bet in the race. Dangers include Vinnie Lewis, Dragon D’Estruval and Get On The Yager is a lively outsider.
