Best bets in Australia in the early hours of Sunday morning

We’ve had a good look at the Australian racing overnight with the focus on Ipswich and Terang. We’ve also covered Pakenham and Geraldton with 36 races covered in total.

Race 8 Terang 7.35 Too Close The Sun (6/4)

Caught the eye on return when third at Ascot, looking to need it; improved to win at Pinjarra in February before too keen at Flemington when third; back to winning ways at Moonee Valley and this track should suit; hard to catch.

I’m expecting TOO CLOSE THE SUN to bounce out in front and make all here. He is an improving 4yo and fairly bolted up when last seen at Moonee Valley. He should lead the likes of Sasko, Woodsman and Ghodeleine and I don’t think they’ll reel him in. He has been well found in the market now but that’s with good reason. Fellow last time out winner The Black Leopard looks the main threat as he is also going the right way and beat some solid yardsticks last time at Sandown. He’ll need the fav to underperform.

Race 2 Ipswich 2.35 Enchantingly (7/4)

Expensive to follow in recent starts but the slight step back in trip is a big plus and with fitness on side against these won’t get a better chance to open her account; only had a handful of starts so worth another chance yet; well drawn.

Everything points to a big run from the favourite ENCHANTINGLY here. She has proved a little frustrating finishing runner-up at Sunshine Coast and Doomben before down the field last time. This looks easier and she has plenty in her favour against these including fitness and a good draw. I expect her to go forward and hopefully she’ll settle better. Back from 1800m to 1515m looks a good move and she should prove hard to beat. Nemingah shaped better than the bare result back from four months off and should improve.
