Scopey chestnut who improved with every run as a 2yo. First caught the eye going down just a neck on debut to Roger Teal’s smart Kenzai Warrior on debut in a red-hot maiden at Salisbury. That horse made it 2-2 in the Group 3 Horris Hill at Newmarket since. MAX VEGA then won his next start by 6 lengths at Pontefract before relishing the step up in trip in the Group 3 Zetland Stakes on final start, running on strongly. Stamina in abundance and has bags of potential. Further improvement to come as he fills his frame.

Given how inexperienced he looked as a 2yo MILITARY MARCH has probably done really well to remain unbeaten winning both starts at Newmarket last season. He stayed on well to make a winning debut with some more experienced horses in behind and built on that to win what looked a decent renewal of the Group 3 Autumn Stakes, coming under pressure but finding plenty to rally and assert again close home. He is improving as he gains experience and there should be tons more to come. He’s an exciting colt.

Everybody loves a flashy grey and LOGICIAN might just prove the best of them! He was mightily impressive last season making it 5-5 in the St Leger. He broke the track record that day and has a relentless way of going about him. He could still be anything and deservedly connections hold him in the highest of regard. He had a stomach infection over the winter but has reportedly made a full recovery thankfully. It will be interesting to see if they target the Arc with him in the autumn given John Gosden already has some ideal candidates in Enable and Stradivarius but wherever he goes he is one to follow.

Vertem Futurity Trophy winner KAMEKO has to be included in our Ten To Follow this season. Andrew Balding has said he is potentially one of the best horses he has ever trained so they have high hopes for him this season. He won two of his four starts last year and obviously produced a career best to win a Group 1 on final start. If he trains on from 2 to 3 and continues to improve who knows where the ceiling may lie. Exciting times.

The improving MILLISLE looks a must for any shortlist of horses to follow for the season off the back of her Chevely Park Stakes success. She put in a huge performance to defeat Raffle Prize and Tropbeau and that looks a piece of form worth following. She showed a devastating turn of foot that day and picked them up readily in the end. I rate the second and third highly so it was a big performance. She’s in good hands and it looks like the Guineas will be her first port of call. Tough ask to beat Quadrilateral but will be a strong each way hope.

I first noticed TECHNICIAN when he ran on strongly to finish second to Bangkok in the Classic Trial at Sandown. He has had a couple of blips since then, most notably when he blew out at Chester. I was there that day and it cost me dearly! I didn’t lose the faith though and he quickly bounced back in France winning a Listed race at a big price. He failed to handle Goodwood but again was back to his best winning a Group 3 at Newbury. It was a big ask behind Logician in the St Leger but he rounded off a profitable campaign with back-to-back wins at Longchamp in soft ground including a Group 1 on final start and is a young stayer on the up. Granted the right conditions I can see him being one to follow for sure.

Richard Huges has made a steady start to his training career but he is yet to get one that sets the world alight but perhaps BRENTFORD HOPE can give him something big to look forward to this season. He looked a colt with considerable potential when hacking up on debut at Newmarket. From what I remember he got quite worked up in the prelims but still put in an exciting performance to win by 5 lengths. He was keen in the race so Jamie Spencer had to take a tug and try and get him settled. When he let him go he quickened up on the bit and settled it in a matter of strides. He really could be anything so one to keep on the radar.

Given BORN WITH PRIDE was pitched into a listed race at Newmarket towards the backend of the season it’s clear connections thought a lot of her and the fact she went on to win it by a neck a shade cosily suggests she could be a very smart animal. She made every yard to win unchallenged under Tom Marquand fending off a useful horse from the Aidan O’Brien yard in Peaceful. She went off 20/1 but proved those odds to be all wrong to win. She looked sure to benefit from that initial outing and is likely to flourish now as a 3yo especially as her stamina is drawn out.

It’s rare you see Sir Michael Stoute train a winner on debut as his horses usually improve with time and experience so that made HIGHEST GROUND looks all the more impressive. He gave them all a start too and showed inexperience throughout the race but he learnt on the job and swept through to win impressively at the line. It was a special performance and I hope he can progress this season into an exciting horse. He will come into his own as he is upped in distance and connections would be silly not to be dreaming of Derby glory already with this big stamp of a horse.

Our final horse in our Ten To Follow for the 2020/21 Flat season is DOMINO DARLING for William Haggas. She overcame greenness in the run to edge out the favourite and with the pair comfortably clear from the rest it looked a big effort. The form has already been nicely franked since and she looks an extremely promising filly going forward. I rate the second Gold Wand too and with them clear they could both be useful. The Oaks must be on the agenda and at around 12/1 she might be worth a play each way.
