Race 3 Scone 4.50 Melik (11/8)
Strong looking sort who made a winning debut over track and trip back in September last year; ran a cracker on next start at Newcastle wide and without cover but finishing well for second; caught the eye on return and will go close with any improvement.
We head to Scone for our best bet Down Under and MELIK looks a good bet to return to winning ways for Paul Messara. He looked a nice prospect winning here on debut and he has run big races in defeat the last twice. Back at this venue over an ideal trip he should prove too strong for his rivals. The market has it spot on in regards to the danger. Halcyon House also looked promising when winning at Armidale but might need this back off a three-month absence. Definitely between the front pair.

Race 7 Mackay 6.12 Taraki (13/8)
Useful mare who notched up her fifth career win finishing powerfully to score at Rockhampton over 1600m last time; this should be run to suit again and she holds obvious claims of following up; will get a good toe into it off Absolut Artie.
I’m keen to side with last time out winner TARAKI here. She impressed me and I’m not convinced by Absolut Artie so the 13/8 is very appealing. She should get carried into this before proving too strong in the closing stages. The latter spurned a good opportunity last time and isn’t one for maximum faith. Raise An Army is probably the one I fear most as he has won his last two and seems to have turned a corner lately. He is meeting younger, progressive horses here though.
