Windsor 2.25 Bombardier Golden Beer Carnarvon Stakes (Listed Race)
I feel this race very much revolves around DARK LADY. She has good form at group level as a 2 year old. A run to that level on seasonal debut would be enough to win this but she could be even better after a wind-op. The only downside would be she hasn’t had a run but Richard Hannon will have done a fair bit of work with her so she should be ready to fire.
Her chief market rival is Repartee who hasn’t had a run either and our selection is rated 5lb better on paper. It looks between the front pair but both Fleeting Prince and Istanbul have potential going forward so it will be interesting to see how they go.
Newmarket 2.45 Betway Empress Fillies’ Stakes (Listed Race)
Looking forward to seeing TIME SCALE out again for Ralph Beckett. She looked a filly with considerable potential when leaving her debut run well behind to trounce rivals at Chepstow last time. She can improve again and looks the one they all have to beat here. Concessions is next in the market but she only beaten two rivals on debut and will find this tougher. Can step forward but certainly needs to.
Undertake made a winning start at Lingfield and ran well when fourth in the Albany at Royal Ascot last week so also comes into the reckoning but I think the fav will be hard to beat under Oisin Murphy.
Windsor 3.00 Bombardier British Hopped Amber Beer Midsummer Stakes (Listed Race)
Decent race on paper we have here with plenty of these running at higher levels and some that could improve. ACCIDENTAL AGENT ran really well in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot last week finishing 5th behind Circus Maximus. Dropping into Listed company today and will surely be in the mix.
Davydenko clearly wasn’t right on seasonal reappearance and could have plenty to come but my idea of the main danger is Stormy Antarctic for the in-form Ed Walker who is a multiple Group 2 winner. It’s a good race and one I’m looking forward to. I think we’ve found the value in the race at 4/1, looks worth taking as should get backed.
Newmarket 3.20 Betway Handicap
This looks all about ASCENSION dropping back to 6f. He won both his starts over this trip as a juvenile and certainly didn’t lose much in defeat when up to 7f last time. I think he’s more effective over this trip though and with further improvement to come he should see this field off under David Egan. With just four runners 11/8 could look big. There’s plenty of pace on so I just think he’ll track them through before finishing best.
Buhturi finished an excellent second to the progressive Brad The Brief at Haydock earlier this month and can step forward again as the main danger.
Windsor 3.35 Bombardier “March To Your Own Drum” Handicap
Wide open handicap with a Listed winner Festive Star heading the weights. He has to give JEAN BAPTISTE 13lb and our selection looks to have plenty to come stepping up in trip. The time at Newcastle on his return to the track was rated pretty quick and if coming on for the run he should be tough to beat off a low weight.
Overwrite was already beaten by our pick but could chase him home again after a good run at Royal Ascot last week. Dance Fever probably heads the dangers as should have much more to come.
Newmarket 3.55 Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap
Desert Icon will likely be popular here for Haggas and Doyle but for me he didn’t find much off the bridle on return and while he should improve he is short enough so I’m going to try and get him beat. DAL HORRISGLE is bred to get better with age and he was largely progressive last season. He failed to fire in a Group 3 on final start but could do better as a 4yo and while this trip is on the short side he might just be worth chancing in this field at 9/2.
The favourite is a danger and so is Elwazir who has gone well fresh before. It’s an intriguing race and I’d rather side with one with a bit of juice about their price.
Curragh 4.15 Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes (Group 2)
Competitive Group 2 but I have this between SPEAK IN COLOURS and Make A Challenge. I sided with the former as he looks to be better on good ground and his run behind Hello Youmzain looks solid form and this could be a little easier so should be thereabouts if matching that.
Make A Challenge is the highest rated in the field but has won plenty on softer ground so won’t be taking the short price about him. Forever In Dreams and Buffer Zone also have each way chances in an open race.
Newmarket 4.30 Betway Fred Archer Stakes (Listed Race)
Both First In Line and Alignak are now non runners as well as Grace And Danger so this race has really cut up. It looks a good opportunity for EL MISK to make a winning return. He has always been held in high regard by connections and was last seen winning well at Kempton. He has to translate that form from the AW to turf but would have leading claims if doing so. I think he looks better value than Pablo Escobarr in the market and is worth chancing. The latter is probably the main danger.
Universal Order is a tough and genuine sort and won’t go down without a fight so can’t be completely discounted either.
Curragh 4.45 Alwasmiyah Pretty Polly Stakes (Group 1)
MAGICAL is the stand out in this and what a horse she has proven to be. If she is anywhere near her best on seasonal reappearance she will win this. Her Champion Stakes win at Ascot was impressive considering she ran in the Arc just two weeks before.
The main danger to our selection is most likely her stablemate Fleeting who should be ready to roll after having a run but will still have to show a lot more to beat Magical. She is better with a bit of cut in the ground so will be hoping for some more rain.
