Smart colt who has won two of his four starts and comes here chasing a hat-trick following a convincing win in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot; improving with racing and stayed on strongly; already sets the standard here and promise of more to come.
Aidan O’Brien sends six runners this year and his star candidate looks to be Royal Ascot winner SANTIAGO for Seamie Heffernan. He is a big strong colt by Authorized and he put rivals to the sword in the Queen’s Vase 8 days ago. As long as this doesn’t come too soon I think he wins. 3/1 seems very appealing and I’m expecting him to go off shorter come post time. The stable could easily have the 1-2 with Arthur’s Kingdom another colt going the right way. Fiscal Rules is also respected stepping up in trip.

Newcastle 1.15 Staxton (5/1)
C&D winner who is becoming too well handicapped to ignore now; didn’t shape badly behind Tinto on return at Newmarket and will be spot on for this now so a big run looks assured; worth chancing at the odds as should be run to suit too.
I can see this panning out favourably for past C&D winner STAXTON for Tim Easterby. He is a useful type and while he didn’t show much towards the end of last season his handicap mark was plummeting all the time and he is now 5lb below his last winning mark. He shaped much better on return from 227 days off the track and will be a lot sharper now. At around 5/1 he looks worth chancing to finally get his head back in front. Tabdeed has a bit to prove but is a worthy fav. Glen Shiel is also a live danger.
