Newmarket 1.40 £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes (Class 2) 6f

Mighty Gurkha was back to his best at Kempton last time prevailing by a diminishing nose at the line. He has a big chance again but has to concede weight all round and it will be harder to dominate here like he did the last day. PEROTTO is the one I’ve come down on at a nice price for Marcus Tregoning. This good looking chestnut has some progressive form to his name and while he was down the field in a Group 2 last time he wasn’t disgraced and I fancy him to bounce back in this company.

Plenty of dangers in a race like this perhaps headed by Ocean Star who got off the mark impressively in the first-time blinkers at Chepstow. Fairy Dust will find this easier and also has to be thereabouts.

How can you not back MAC AILEY here? That last run was a big effort and if he reproduces that here he will win. He pulled 10 lengths clear from the third which was Camile so was in a different league to them. I know he doesn’t have the most convincing strike rate but this should fall in his lap. Dutch Coed was second last time having been slowly away and looks the one to chase the selection home. The rest are very moderate so the betting may have it spot on with Paddyplex possibly filling out third spot.

This is an obvious opportunity for the favourite to add another win and 11/4 is too good to pass up even on a Saturday with as much good racing as there is.

Newmarket 2.10 British EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap (Class 2) 1m2f

A cracking race with several in with a chance. The one I liked initially was Wondrous Words but now she is out I have to be with MOLL DAVIS for George Scott. This filly by Kingman has ran creditably in defeat in two starts so far this season and has been given time since that latest second at Newbury. She remains open to improvement and certainly won’t mind the rain so has likeable claims (included her in my Place Acca today).

Oti Ma Boati is favourite for William Haggas and she does look to be going the right way but this is harder again up 6lb in a stronger race and she looks a bit short in the market to me. Be More should have conditions so also comes into the reckoning.

Redcar 2.15 Market Cross Jewellers Handicap (Class 5) 1m2f

Not a great race and that’s summed up by Rum Runner being favourite. I wouldn’t be keen on him at a short price so one to take on for me. FOX KASPER gets the vote but it’s only a tentative one. This son of Society Rock scored at Ripon in August and wasn’t disgraced at Chester last time. He still has scope off this mark and I can see him running well. It’s not a strong race so 13/2 is too big to pass up.

El Jefe is the gamble for Brian Ellison but he could only finish fifth at Ayr when last seen and will need to do better back up in trip now. Respected but the value has gone in the market now.

Newmarket 2.45 Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes (Group 1) 1m

Billesdon Brook won this last year for Richard Hannon and she lines up again as she looks to defend her crown. She hasn’t done much wrong this year but does look held by Nazeef and looks vulnerable this time round. The latter has a big shout back at this trip and has to be respected.

CHAMPERS ELYSEES is the one I’ve come down on though. This filly has done nothing but improve and beat Peaceful in the Matron at Leopardstown last month. She can keep progressing and this sort of test looks to be coming at the right time for her. The pace isn’t clear but Terebellum and Veracious shouldn’t be far away along with Cloak Of Spirits. Hopefully the selection gets a nice toe into it before pouncing late under Colin Keane. She’ll need a bit of luck coming through as Final Song and a couple of others will also look to pick up the pieces.

Redcar 2.50 Racing TV EBG Stallions Guisborough Stakes

This looks a good renewal of the Guisborough Stakes with plenty of these running in better company of late. MY OBERON looks the one to be with here after Khaloosy was declared a non-runner. He has the best form in the race behind Tilsit and Top Rank with the latter going on to better things. That run behind Top Rank was on vert soft ground like he will encounter today at Newmarket and will take all the beating.

Ostilio rates the main danger in the race in these conditions but may struggle to hold off our selection.

Newmarket 3.20 British EBF Premier Fillies’s Handicap

A very competitive handicap with a fair few of these with a lot of potential. I am taking a chance on LA LUNE bouncing back to form back up to 1 mille and a half. She has some solid form to her name before disappointing at Newbury but I feel she needs this trip to see her at her best, plus with the ground making it even more of a test of stamina it should further suit her. The 14/1 available at the time of writing looks way too big now.

Ice Sprite looks the main danger to the selection and will like the conditions today but I quite like my selection at over 3 times the price.

Lullaby Moon will love conditions so it’s no surprise to see the money for her at the top of the market. She was a good third to Umm Kulthum at Ayr in the Firth Of Clyde and looks a key player off the back of that. I very nearly tipped her but SPRIGHT is a bigger price and also looks a filly on the upgrade. She has won her last two and put in her best effort to date at Doncaster last time, always holding on. This is obviously tougher again but I want to keep her on side and think she is poised to run a big race.

Of the rest Uncle Jumbo is a likeable sort who should run his race. If it becomes a slog in the closing stages he will be trying his best. Mamba Wamba has a first-time visor so also has to be feared.
