Newmarket 1.10 Dubai Nursery (Class 2) 7f

This doesn’t look the strongest race to get the day started at Newmarket but one or two of these could be capable of taking some black type in the future. TAWAAREQ is the one for me and improved from his debut to win nicely at Doncaster last time. With the usual progress he will take a lot of beating in this race.

Inveigle could be the main danger with his run behind Mamba Wamba looking very solid form and if improving with experience will be in the mix at a nice price. Zoffarelli did well to overcome pace bias to score at Kempton last time and is also noted.

ITV RACING STARTS NOW!

Newmarket 1.45 Godolphin Flying Start Zetland Stakes (Group 3) 1m2f

Max Vega landed us a 16/1 winner in this last year steaming home under Harry Bentley. Ralph Beckett does have an interesting runner this time round in Frankel colt Fabilis. He made all the running on nursery debut a fortnight ago and is open to plenty of improvement. I like his chances but LONE EAGLE is preferred. This Galileo colt was made to work hard to land the odds at Goodwood but stepped forward again to win convincingly at Doncaster last time. He remains open to considerable improvement and is hard to knock here under an in-form SDS.

Kyprios is favourite following a promising start at Galway last month. He is clearly talented but I don’t think there should be as much between him and the selection in the market so on that basis he has to be opposed this afternoon. Recovery Run is consistent and can run well perhaps without being good enough.

York 2.00 coral.co.uk Rockingham Stakes (Listed Race) 6f

I’m taking a chance on one here in REGIONAL for Richard Fahey. This colt by Territories made a winning start at Pontefract in July and improved in defeat to finish fourth to Winter Power at Ayr last time. That form has worked out well since and he remains open to improvement so could run a big race here at a decent price. He is drawn out wide which isn’t ideal but hopefully he can get some cover early before coming through rivals.

Legal Attack is the one I fear most as he is bred to be smart and also made a winning start at Newmarket. He stepped forward to chase home Plainchant in a Group 3 at Chantilly and is a key player off the back of that form. Light Refrain is also worthy of plenty of respect.

Newmarket 2.20 Emirates Autumn Stakes (Group 3) 1m

A good renewal of the Autumn Stakes with plenty of these looking good prospects for next season. ONE RULER has some rock solid form with a win and two places. In both races he was beaten it was by some very good horses. Etonian runs in the feature race today (Dewhurst) and New Mandate who set a very good time when beating the selection then won the Group 2 Royal Lodge after that. It is sold form and with the mile set to suit he should be bang there.

Van Gogh is sure to be popular and is the main danger based on his form in the Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown. Maximal is also prominent in the betting after getting off the mark at Sandown last month. He will be better over further in the future though so is passed over today.

York 2.35 Coral Beaten By A Length Free Bet Handicap (Class 2) 1m21/2f

A race packed with horses we have backed and won with this season with ILARAAB being one of our favourites. He has rattled off 4 wins in-a-row winning by fine margins but looks good for more. He is only up 5lb for his latest win at Newbury which looks generous and I would be surprised if he isn’t battling out the finish.

Anythingtoday and Matthew Flinders look like the main dangers and should chase him home. Crystal Pegasus has turned a corner lately winning his last two and also enters the reckoning up 4lb but he will find this tougher.

Newmarket 2.55 Darley Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1) 7f

Pinatubo won this last year and it looks an exciting renewal where Richard Hannon looks to have a strong hand. I have to put forward CHINDIT as my main selection as he has done nothing wrong and comes here with a perfect record 3-3. We have been with him since his debut and he has just got better and better. The strong pace here will suit and he should be finishing best of all under Pat Dobbs.

Given the nature of the race I think it has some attractive each way appeal and FIVETHOUSANDTOONE is worth backing for a place at 16/1. SDS has said he wouldn’t swap him for anything in the race and I can see this test suiting so at that price he has to be included.

York 3.10 Coral Sprint Trophy Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) 6f

Even though this is so competitive I do love these sorts of races and I have two confident each way plays here. The first is CAME FROM THE DARK who we were with when he won at Haydock, turning the tables with Count D’Orsay. That was a progressive run and with further improvement possible he can run a big race in ideal conditions.

The second that caught my eye is APLOMB for William Haggas. This son of Lope De Vega was back to winning ways at Ripon a fortnight ago and goes particularly well in soft ground so a 5lb rise still gives him a very good chance of going close under Paul Hanagan. Plenty of dangers and they’re probably headed by Mr Lupton and Magical Spirit but a big run from Gulliver wouldn’t surprise me either.

Newmarket 3.35 Together For Racing International Cesarewitch Handicap (Heritage Handicap) 2m2f

One of the toughest races of the year to call on the Flat with a whopping 34 horses due to go to post. I am going to go with 3 in this as it is tough just to pick one with the shortest price at time of writing 9/1. COLTRANE is the main pick as he seems to be constantly improving and will love the step up in trip. He may only be a 3 year-old but gets allowances for that and as a result will go really well off just 8 stone 7.

Willie Mullins has won the last 3 runnings of this and GREAT WHITE SHARK must have a very good chance after a decent run behind Princess Zoe who has gone on to win a Group 1 in France so the form is solid. He has also won since over hurdles and will stay all day in a race that always takes some getting with the pace on offer.

My final pick is LYNWOOD GOLD for Jessie Harrington who is a dual purpose horse like Great White Shark and will relish the softer conditions over this trip and should outrun his odds. Dangers are a plenty and they include Leoncavallo, Mondain and at a bigger price Rajinsky.

Newmarket 4.15 Dubai British EBF Boadicea Stakes (Fillies’ And Mares’ Listed) 6f

Millisle has to be respected here as she was quite impressive when back to form in the Ballyogan Stakes at Naas in July but she has disappointed since when sixth in the Phoenix Sprint Stakes and is a bit short in the betting. I’d rather be with MAID IN INDIA. This Bated Breath mare ran a huge race in the Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh last month when fourth to Glass Slippers and looks to have a huge chance down in grade here. Conditions hold no fears and she looks to have plenty going for her.

It’s competitive so I expect Breathtaking Look to show up well for a long way. Jovial needs to bounce back but still has potential and Sunday Star hasn’t been running badly and makes some appeal from an each way perspective.

Newmarket 4.15

Maid In India 4/1

Newmarket 4.50 Darley Stakes (Group 3) 1m1f

A decent race to cap off the Future Champions meeting at Newmarket. Quite a few with chances but I have been waiting for HIGHEST GROUND to run again after going ever so close in the Dante. Thunderous who beat him that day should prove a good horse and that form will work out. The drop down to 1 mile 1 furlong should be fine on this ground. If running to the form of the Dante he will take a lot of beating.

Darain will be better back in trip whereas Posted could be a fair bit better stepping up however I think they will both have to improve a bit to beat the selection. Dream Castle won at Thirsk in August but is unproven on a softer surface so may struggle.
