Race 8 Moonee Valley 11.00 Real Gun (7/4)

Progressive sort who justified favouritism impressively at Caulfield last month, winning convincingly; improving all the time and looks well placed to go in again and make it 2 wins from 3 over this trip.

I’m quite surprised REAL GUN is as big as 7/4 here as his claims look crystal clear to me. He really impressed last time at Caulfield and runs over the same trip here which looks to suit him well. He is up in grade but has been kept fresh and ticks plenty of boxes coming into this. Delusions is the closest in the betting and while she has failed to land a blow the last twice she looked a bit unlucky last time and will strip fitter now so she looks the danger to the selection. Torched will find this easier than what he has been contesting lately so also has to be respected back from 9 months off the track. Jay Gatsby is also returning but might need the run. It’s quite a good race but the fav is the one to beat.

Race 6 Ballina 5.25 Avowal (15/8)

Likeable sort who has 2 wins from 6 starts already and is getting better with racing; sat on the speed throughout when denied a neck last month; probably better than that so very good chance of getting back to winning ways.

This looks a great opportunity for AVOWAL to resume the winning groove for Lindsay Hatch and Kyle Wilson-Taylor. He is a horse on the up and he’s been running in some strong races lately so looks a danger to all here. It’s no surprise to see him installed as favourite. Beauty Canto would have been a big threat to the selection but he’s been scratched so it now looks a good chance on paper for the fav. Baileys knocked on the door beaten less than a length at Tuncurry and while he needs to step forward from that to challenge he probably will so may well end up being the danger. Alcides has some good form in the book so is also respected but might need this back from a brief break.
