Leopardstown 1.10 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Paddy Mullins Mares Handicap Hurdle (Grade B) 2m2f

Wide open handicap as most of these Grade B Irish handicaps are and I am siding with TELMESOMETHINGGIRL who could well be better than her opening handicap mark. She has won 3 of 4 and the only one she didn’t win was in a fair Listed race where she finished a good third. She likely has more to come and should go well here.

Dysart Diamond for the in-form Mullins and Townend has to be taken seriously just might be best at the minimum trip but is still the likely danger. Others to note would be Global Equity at a massive price for Joesph O’Brien (25-1) and the other would be Blanketontheground (12-1) if getting in (2nd Reserve).

Leopardstown 1.40 Tattersalls Ireland Spring Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 1) 2m

A few of these look like they could be top class no more so than QUILIXIOS. Cheveley Park have some very good horses in the national hunt sphere now and this one could go right to the top. He has won all 3 of his races by a combined 45 lengths and although the races haven’t been anything special he couldn’t have done it any easier. He surely has plenty to come and will take all the beating in this.

Another that looked very good is Youmdor however he did blot the form falling last time even though he was travelling well at the time. Joseph O’Brien has won the last two runnings of the race so Busselton (9-1) could be a danger but I do think the selection looks solid.

Musselburgh 1.55 bet365 Scottish Triumph Hurdle (A Juvenile Hurdle) (Listed Race) Class 1 1m71/2f

A very interesting race not knowing just how good some of these are. HISTORIC HEART is one we know more about than most and he should have a great chance based on his last run. He ran well in the Cheltenham Triumph Trial behind the classy Adagio who has gone on to beat Nassalam so that form looks rock solid. Historic Heart was 7 lengths clear of the rest that day and a Listed race looks to be what he wants. I think he will be right in the mix at a fair price (13/2 at the time of writing).

I can see why Fiveandtwenty is favourite for this but fillies don’t have the best record in the race and she may have company at the front. That said she is still the main danger. Wise Glory was good on the Flat and is one to watch in the market on his first run for Paul Nicholls.

Leopardstown 2.10 Chanelle Pharma Novice Hurdle (Grade 1) 2m

I have been looking forward to APPRECIATE IT running again as he impressed in the Grade 1 at Leopardstown over Christmas and you can see why he is a short price favourite for this. He is still improving all the time and beat quite of few of Sunday’s opponents in that race. Willie Mullins targets this race as a prep run for the Supreme and they usually take this before running a big race at Cheltenham and I expect no different from this potential star.

He beat Irascible and Ballyadam last time so they would have to improve a fair bit to be dangerous. The main danger will be Blue Lord who won over this trip on hurdles debut and ran a good 2nd to Bob Olinger in a Grade 1 at Naas. He should improve for that experience and the shorter trip may suit better.

Musselburgh 2.25 bet365 Scottish Stayers Novices’ Hurdle (Class 2) 3m

Our Notebooks finished nearly 40 points up last month (to level stakes) which means £5 on and you would have turned a near £200 profit. We had a good winner yesterday in Gaillard Du Mesnil and will be looking to add a couple more this afternoon (we tip 2 per day).

Leopardstown 2.40 William Fry Handicap Hurdle (Grade B) 3m

Like the earlier handicap on the card it is fiercely competitive again but a few good horses have won this over the years. FRONTAL ASSAULT hasn’t been far away in all of his hurdles runs and looks to be improving with every run. He ran well behind Jacksons Gold before a nice win at Thurles last time. He has blinkers on for the first time and 128 could prove lenient in this race and he should be in the mix at a decent each way price.

Paul Townend choosing to ride Koshari has to be noted over Dandy Mag who won nicely last time. The other danger could well be Pure Genius in the McManus colours who have done so well in handicaps already this weekend. Downtown Getaway is another not to entirely dismiss now trained by Willie Mullins.

Musselburgh 2.55 Pertemps Network Group Handicap Hurdle (Pertemps Hurdle Series Qualifier) (GBB Race) Class 2 3m2f

I know we haven’t seen PRINCE KAYF for 13 months but his form in novice company has been franked plenty since and an opening mark of 128 could easily underestimate his ability now stepping up in trip. He beat Imperial Alcazar at Newcastle before chasing home Overthetop at the same venue next time. The test this track provides should suit and he looks the class angle in the race. I’ll be surprised if 7/2 is available come post time.

In terms of a danger it’s unoriginal but Keeper Hill is probably the one. He often gets outpaced so this trip will play to his strengths and while I think he is vulnerable for win purposes he is the one that will keep galloping when the others have cried enough. Chapel Stile is also worth considering having shaped well in third at Carlisle.

Leopardstown 3.10 Flogas Novice Chase (Grade 1) 2m51/2f

We saw some special performances on Saturday from the likes of Gaillard Du Mesnil, Chacun Pour Soi, Energumene, Honeysuckle and Kilcruit and we could be set for another one from this yard in MONKFISH on Sunday. He is unbeaten over fences and made it 5 straight wins in a row always holding on from Latest Exhibition here last time. The latter ran a cracker on that occasion but I see no reason why he will reverse that form and they look the 1-2 again here barring accidents. The favourite is 2/1 for the RSA next month and I expect him to cement his claims this afternoon.

Stablemate Asterion Forlonge will be hoping to put in a clear round and while I couldn’t advise anyone parting with their hard earned to back such a fruit-loop he is plenty talented and if he gets into a rhythm it wouldn’t surprise me to see him run better than his 12-1 odds suggest. He still has potential after all.

Musselburgh 3.25 bet365 Scottish Supreme Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race) Class 2 1m71/2f

I’m looking to seeing the highly progressive THIRD TIME LUCKI out again at Musselburgh and he is our best bet of the day at even money. He finished fourth in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival behind Ferny Hollow and has since developed into a very useful hurdler. He won his first two starts before getting too far back at Cheltenham when second to For Pleasure. It was good to see him back to his best slamming Flic Ou Voyou by 9 lengths at Kempton and he looks the one to beat again given he remains open to further progress. He already sets the standard on form and looks to have the most potential in this field. He is trading at around 16/1 for the Supreme next month and I think there are worse each way bets than that.

Bareback Jack was an Irish point winner and he has looked a nice horse winning over C&D in November before following up at Catterick. He should run well but just looks to be bumping into one in the favourite here. Similar comments apply to Tommy’s Oscar who has looked useful but he needs much more to extend that winning sequence.
