NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS AT KEMPTON ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON!
Kempton 1.30 Straw Fan Jack (7/4)
Likeable type who won like a horse on the up at Hereford in October; narrowly missed at Ascot but beaten by a useful type; back to winning ways impressively at Aintree in December; freshened up since and has more to offer.
With 2 wins from his last 3 STRAW FAN JACK should prove hard to beat here. He is a horse on the upgrade and even his form in defeat at Ascot looks strong. He won head in chest last time and while this looks a tougher ask he comes here a fresh horse and has more upside than Flic Ou Voyou. The latter is a talented individual and that jumpers bumper run at Kempton is worth discarding. Before that he chased home Third Time Lucki and he is the main danger on that sort of form. He has been on the go since October though and does look to be bumping into an improver. Royaume Uni is open to improvement back over hurdles but I think the favourite is the more finished article right now.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS OVER JUMPS AT UTTOXETER ON SATURDAY!
Uttoxeter 2.25 St Barts (5/2)
Promising horse who won twice over hurdles before being sent over fences; bumped into a solid yardstick at Exeter when needing the experience on chase debut in November; quickly improved to open his account at Newbury; can improve again.
I’m looking forward to seeing ST BARTS out again. He has won 3 from 6 under Rules and looks to be improving all the time. He relished the switch to the larger obstacles winning nicely at Newbury when last seen in December and given time since he is open to further progress. I expect him to push forward again and make it a test. I think when he’s good over his fences his jumping is a big asset so Dickie Johnson will be keen to utilise that. Eclair Surf has won 2 of his last 3 and looked good at Sandown latest. He’s up 5lb but is the danger with more to come. Ask Me Early was massively disappointing when pulling up at Sandown and has a point to prove after that albeit looking good prior to that.
