Aintree 1.45 SSS Super Alloys Manifesto Novices’ Chase (Grade 1) 2m4f

An intriguing little opener to kick off the Grand National meeting at Aintree and I had this between the top two in the market FUSIL RAFFLES and Hitman. The selection ran a cracker in the Marsh Chase behind Chantry House at Cheltenham and ticks most of the trends for this race. His form is rock solid bar one blip in November with 3 wins and a second. He loves this spring ground and will go close in this if running to form.

Hitman skipped Cheltenham for this which is a big plus but despite all the hype around the horse I don’t fully trust him to win this. His trainer Paul Nicholls has a terrible record in this race which includes beaten favourites Cyrname and Al Ferof plus I don’t think his form is as good as Fusil Raffles. The Shunter impressed at Cheltenham and could still be improving and I think he may follow the selection home.

Aintree 2.20 Doom Bar Anniversary 4YO Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 1) 2m1f

It’s no surprise to see Monmiral favourite here for Paul Nicholls given he is unbeaten and he sidestepped Cheltenham to come here but even so I think NOTEBOOK has a good chance of winning the argument. He ran a cracker at the Festival last month and given he is still open to further improvement I think he is sure to go close. This flatter track and better ground are all positives and given he has mixed it with stronger opposition he is taken to be more streetwise at this stage of his career.

Monmiral should run well and I do think the pair will fight it out. John Locke looks best of the remainder. He was only fourth behind Tritonic in the Adonis so has enough to find on collateral form but he is open to improvement and should come on for that run so is a bit overpriced in terms of the without the front two markets.

Aintree 2.50 Betway Bowl Chase (Grade 1) 3m1f

Lots of talk around this race with Tiger Roll turning up here after not taking his place in the Grand National. I have learnt never to rule him out but it would take a big run from him to take this Grade 1 with decent opposition in here. With plenty of questions to answer around most of these I am happy to take a chance with CLONDAW CASTLE who won a handicap at Kempton in good fashion and on the forecast ground looks a cracking each way bet.

Clan Des Obeaux has first-time cheekpieces but he just hasn’t been the same horse this season and I feel he might need a bit more cut in the ground but he still rates the main danger. Waiting Patiently looks a nightmare ride and is nearly impossible to catch right and Native River will go well in front but may find the ground a tad on the quick side.

Aintree 3.25 Betway Aintree Hurdle (Grade 1) 2m4f

Fiercely competitive renewal of the Aintree Hurdle and I have to go with Cheltenham casualty ABACADABRAS here. He got no further than the third the last day but he had been a sound jumper up until then and I’m wiling to forgive that. This track looks ideal and the better ground can also help. He still has plenty of potential and his second to Honeysuckle looks all the better now that mare has gone on to win the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham so impressively. I can see him coming there on the snaff before hopefully edging away to win.

Jason The Militant looked better than ever at Fairyhouse last time and missed Cheltenham to come here so looks the danger. He has to prove himself up in trip but otherwise has plenty going for him. McFabulous will have to put that latest run behind him to get involved, not entirely convinced. Brewin’upastorm has looked rejuvenated lately so is respected. Song For Someone wasn’t himself when second to Goshen last time and could grab a place if bouncing back.

Aintree 4.05 Rose Paterson Randox Foxhunters’ Open Hunters’ Chase (Class 2) 2m5f

This could be a good opportunity for BILLAWAY to bounce back from just getting beaten at Cheltenham by Porlock Bay. He will be fine with the drop in trip winning impressively at the shorter distance earlier in the season and seemingly he handles any ground. He looks the most straightforward of all of these with plenty either not getting their preferred ground or trip and I expect him to run a big race again like he did at the Festival.

Sametegal is the main danger as he beat Porlock Bay in February and has run over this course plenty previously. His best form though is on softer ground and may need a bit further to be seen at his best. As an each way bet in the race DASHING PERK looks a good bet at double figure prices at the time of writing. He has good form at Aintree and could have more to come in this sphere.

Aintree 4.40 Close Brothers Red Rum Handicap Chase (Grade 3) 2m

I thought ON THE SLOPES ran a cracker in the Grand Annual last month. He was probably ridden a bit too close to the pace to have a serious chance but even still was beaten less than 7 lengths by the winner Sky Pirate into fourth. I think that’s strong form and if he reproduces that here he has a live chance. He is the sort of horse that loves getting into a rhythm and if he gets pinging these he might not be pegged back. He is off the same mark and I think he has a big one in him so I’ll be cheering him home again.

In a race of this nature I’ve got to have two against the field and previous winner of this race MOON OVER GERMANY is a serious contender again. He was sent back over hurdles at the start of the season but didn’t show a great deal and shaped better than the end result when fourth to Any Second Now back over fences last time. If he comes on for that this race could be well within reach. There looks to be a strong pace on and I don’t expect him to be far away. Getaway Trump and Grey Diamond completed the shortlist but I was keen to oppose Destrier at the head of the market.

Aintree 5.15 Goffs UK Nickel Coin Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race (Grade 2) 2m1f

This looks like a high quality renewal of this Mares’ race and to think a horse like Elle Est Belle who was third behind two class horses in the Cheltenham Champion Bumper is only second favourite. This is because EILEENDOVER looks a top class filly on her 3 runs to date. She has won all three by a combined 51 lengths. We are yet to see how good she is but I can’t oppose her even at a short price and think she will take some beating.

Elle Est Belle is the main danger but she was held up to pick up the pieces at Cheltenham and that is exactly what she did. Mind Sunday is a good horse but it shows how good they rate the selection with Henderson’s horse priced at 16/1. Miss Lamb was 2 from 2 before bumping into Eileendover so the form stacks up and we could be seeing plenty more of the selection in the future.

ITV Racing Each Way Double

With 5 races live on ITV Racing on Thursday afternoon we have picked out two horses at decent odds we can see running well. If both place we should still make some nice profit so they’re worth including.
