NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS AT HAYDOCK ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON!
Haydock 2.40 Alpinista (15/8)
Frankel filly who achieved a very good level of form last season, including a second in Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks; Listed success on return at Goodwood and capable of better yet so looks the one to beat here.
I’m really looking forward to seeing ALPINISTA out here. Sir Mark Prescott’s Frankel filly developed into a smart performer last season winning a Listed event at Salisbury before chasing home Love in the Yorkshire Oaks and then going down just half a length to Antonia De Vega in a Group 3 at Newmarket, where she was arguably unlucky. She resumed her progression at Goodwood edging out Makawee by a short head and given time since could be coming into her own now. She’s entitled to improve and this looks a good opportunity to follow up. Makawee opposes again and looks the pace angle. Mystery Angel ran a cracker when second to Snowfall in the Oaks and may well be the danger.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS AT SANDOWN ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON!
Sandown 3.00 Statement (9/4)
Lawman filly who was highly tried on first two starts beaten a short head in the Fred Darling on return and then down the field in the Guineas; not disgraced latest; sets the standard down in grade and hard to oppose.
This looks fairly straight forward with STATEMENT rated 3lb clear of the field and a lot more ahead of most of these. She drops down from Group level after running in the 1,000 Guineas behind Mother Earth and Princess Elizabeth Stakes last month. She ran with credit in both races but this looks like a great chance to get her head in front again. This is another race William Haggas has a good record in winning the last two renewals and I think if any of these can put it to the selection it would be Ready To Venture. She stepped up to 10 furlongs last time and I think she is best at a mile as her form suggests. Back down to this trip she will go close if still improving.
