Nottingham 5.20 British EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Class 4) (2YO only) 6f

A competitive little maiden to kick-off the evening card at Nottingham with 3 or 4 of these looking to hold a decent chance. GOLDEN WARRIOR’s debut run was a solid effort at Newmarket finishing just over 3 lengths down at the finish in a big field. If he finds the expected improvement in this race he should go very close.

Helvetique is the only winner in the field and she is penalised for that win which puts her on the same weight as the selection. With the fillies allowance negated by the penalty I favour Golden Warrior. The main danger will likely be Skittlebombz who went close at Haydock on his second start but does give the selection 2lb.

Nottingham 5.50 Racing TV Extra Nursery (Class 5) (2YO only) 1m1/2f

Another tricky race so I’m going to play two against the field here. I’ve got to be honest I expected MOUNT SNOWDON  to have achieved more after four starts but maybe he is just a bit of a slow burner and he could be seen in a better light now handicapping. An opening mark of 75 surely underestimates his true ability and if he channels it in the right direction tonight he will go close at around 6/1. That was a good effort last time beaten just a length and a quarter and with more to come up to a mile for the first time I think he is worth keeping on side.

Given the nature of the race I’m happy to put forward ALMIGHTY RAVE as an each way saver too. This filly by Zoffany has shown ability at big prices in three starts to date and while she’ll need to improve she moves up a furlong in trip and has been shaping as though she’ll relish it. On The River is fav after that Musselburgh romp on Friday and is well treated under a penalty so looks a danger to all if turning out quickly.

Nottingham 6.20 Pete Williams Aka Henry Memorial Fillies’ Handicap (Class 5) (3YO plus) 1m1/2f

Another race where it is hard to rule any of these out as there could be plenty of improvers in here but I am siding with PARIKARMA who’s two runs over a mile would be good enough to go close in this. She lost out on both occasions by fine margins with her run at Leicester being the standout, clocking a great time. She may not be a big improver like some of these potentially are but her consistency makes her good bet at a nice price.

The biggest improver could well be LIGHT OF THUNDER on her handicap debut with the pick of her form a second at Goodwood being good enough to take this if in the same form off a mark of 67. Fashion Free is another consistent miler and a mark of 62 does look workable and she should make up the top 3.

Nottingham 6.50 National Racehorse Week 12th-19th September Novice Stakes (Class 5) (3YO plus) 1m2f

Experience should count for plenty here and JASMINE JOY is expected to justify favouritism. The Lope De Vega filly caught the eye on debut beaten less than three lengths into fourth at Doncaster. She shaped really promisingly again on return up to this trip for the first time and while she was expected to do better at Leicester she was just short of room at a key stage in the race and I think she’s better than the bare form. This looks a great opportunity to make the breakthrough and she is the most likely winner as the market is suggesting.

Neptune Seas ran well on debut when third to Golden Bugle but failed to back that up when a well held fourth at Doncaster last month. He is left with questions to answer after that and at 6/4 you couldn’t back him against the favourite. Princess Anouschka was tenderly handled on debut and can improve so might be a greater danger but the fav should have too much for these.

Nottingham 7.20 Nationalracehorseweek.uk Handicap (Class 6) (3YO only) 1m2f

This 16-runner handicap has to be one of the toughest races on the card with it being 6/1 the field at the time of writing. LADY ZIANA looks ready to land a handicap off her current mark with form figures at the trip of 232 and she has only been raised 1lb for her close second at Beverley last month. There are plenty in here that could take advantage of nice handicap marks but she is in the best form and is still given a chance by the handicapper and I expect her to go close.

The one that I feel is most likely to be on a good mark is BELVEDERE BLAST who was behind the selection last time out after breaking slowly but has now been dropped to a mark of 48. He has placed previously off of a mark of 52 so he is one to note and at fair each way price.

Nottingham 7.50 Farewell And Thank You Ron Mason Fillies’ Handicap (Class 4) (3YO plus) 1m2f

The NAP simply wasn’t good enough yesterday despite the strong support just before the off. We’re working hard to try and get this back on track and we head to Nottingham on Tuesday night. JEWEL IN MY CROWN is clearly on an upward trajectory and that was a big run in defeat last time behind Portfolio. That filly had it all her own way that day and has backed it up with a huge effort in defeat beaten less than a length in a Listed race at Newmarket on Saturday. Given she is proven over this C&D and has more to come it’s no surprise to see her favourite here.

Loving Dash hung under pressure last time which is a bit worrying. I think Mashkoorah could be the danger is taking another step forward. She was beaten 10 lengths+ on return but the two in front of her Brunnera and Amy Beach are both very good yardsticks. Golden Dove is running consistently but looks vulnerable to improvers.

Nottingham 8.20 Watch Irish Racing On Racingtv Handicap (Class 4) (3YO only) 6f

There may only be 6-runners in this handicap but its a completive affair with 10lb covering the whole field. I am prepared to give ASADJUMEIRAH another chance after finishing behind the re-opposing Silent Flame at Ffos Las last time. He was short of room when making his challenge and has been dropped a pound as a result which could come in handy here. Prior to that he won his only previous run at this trip and I think he still has plenty more to come.

Silent Flame will be the main danger again but does carry an extra 4lb for that win last time and it could make it harder to hold form with the selection. The other horse to note is Boogie time who won on fast ground at Doncaster by over 2 lengths. He is hit with a 6lb penalty and I do think he needs the ground to be rattling quick based on his form which he won’t get here.
