Goodwood 1.45

Gold Souk has been taken out this morning so I’m putting forward MAGICAL DRAGON now. This Dragon Pulse gelding brings winning form to the table which is more than can be said about most of these (bar Luna Magic). He is up 6lb but remains well treated on old form and with Sabrina Brotherton in the saddle I think he is going to run a big race. The market is speaking favourably too and in these weak races that can often be significant. With usual luck in-running he has to go close in such a weak race.

Beau Geste is in good form and still remains the danger. He will need them to go a good gallop though and these amateur jockey events can turn tactical at times with stop-start gallops. Last time out winner Luna Magic is probably the threat but a 4lb rise certainly demands more of her. Zlatan will likely travel powerfully but doesn’t usually find much off the bridle.

Goodwood 2.15

Another tough handicap to try and pick the winner of but I think TREACHEROUS has been suggesting his turn might be near. He finished strongly when denied just a short head at Windsor at the start of the month and if he comes here in similar form I think he could go one better. The horse he finished behind Capote’s Dream looks a progressive individual so that’s a strong piece of form. He needs a bit of luck in-running given his run style from off the pace but if he gets the gaps he will be finishing best I think.

Able Kante ran a cracker when second to Mr Wagyu in the consolation race for the Stewards’ Cup and he backed that up with a solid third at Newmarket last time. If he runs to that level again he will be the main danger to the selection. Motagally is also feared off a potentially lenient mark.

Goodwood 2.50

Not much to go on in this maiden with over half of the field making their debuts. I like to side with horses with form in the book and FIRTH OF CLYDE should get his head in front here. He has improved with every run and lost out by a neck in a decent race at Newmarket last time. The time of the race rates well and if in the same form I think he is the one to beat. He looks the best bet on the card albeit at a short enough price.

Andrew Balding won this race last year with a newcomer and he has Berkshire Rebel making his debut here. He is related to plenty of winners and he may be ready to roll in debut. That said if the selection is in the same form as his last run it will take an impressive debut to beat him. Shabbab has had a run and it didn’t really jump off the page but could step forward to run a place here.

Goodwood 3.25

Aggagio is favourite here but I don’t have much between him and EPIC PASS and I’m going to side with the latter at a bigger price. This colt by Awtaad ran well on debut for this yard beaten just 2 lengths at Lingfield and I know he disappointed last time but he just did too much early and given this looks to be calmer waters I think he can bounce back under William Buick. I think he’ll go forward and if he dictates he could be a tough nut to crack in the closing stages.

Aggagio is the obvious danger as the betting is suggesting but he does have a bit to prove. Arthur’s Angel is a likeable type who has enough to find even dropping into a seller now. Capla Knight is hard to recommend up in trip.

Epic Pass 13/8

Goodwood 4.00

This is a tough one to call with no real standout in the race. RHOSCOLYN shades it for me as he has improved all season and won’t need to improve much to win this. He won over course and distance earlier in the season and went close at the Glorious Goodwood meeting behind Maydanny. The run before that behind Brunch is rock solid and with a few of these lacking solid recent form he will give you a good run for your money.

Like the selection Tactical gets the 3 year old allowance and comes out best at the weights. He was last seen at Newbury in the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes and this does look easier than quite a few of his assignments this season so don’t be surprised if he bounces back and gives the selection the most to think about.

Goodwood 4.35

This is a good little race but I’m confident NOTEBOOK is going to take the beating. This son of Sea The Stars slammed a subsequent winner in Barn Owl who won yesterday at Sandown last month. An 8lb hike obviously demands more but he is lightly raced and remains open to further improvement. He is only having his third start over this trip so is very much unexposed.

Mr Excellency takes his chance here as opposed to Beverley on Saturday and should give the selection a nice trail into the race. Highland Rocker looks the danger as he shaped well when fourth in a good race at Newmarket and remains open to further progression.

Goodwood 5.10

Only the 5 runners set to line up for this handicap and MAYTAL is my pick here. She lost out by a neck last time at Salisbury in what looked a good handicap. She has already won at Haydock this season and hasn’t been out of the places on her other 4 runs. The 3lb rise from the handicapper doesn’t worry me as she is clearly still improving and the first time visor could see her go very well here.

The main danger is By Starlight who has been in similar form as the selection but I feel this is a harder race than she has been competing in and that’s the difference between the two. Quenelle D’Or is admirably consistent and I don’t expect her to be far away either.
