1.50 Newmarket

This is a very interesting renewal of the Cornwallis Stakes with plenty of these running better over further than 5 furlongs. TWILIGHT JET seems versatile with regards to trip and has the best piece of form so far. His last run in the Middle Park at the track 2 weeks ago looks top form finishing just a length and a half behind the classy Perfect Power. He had been holding his form well and with a previous win at 5 furlongs he looks the most solid bet in the race.

The main danger is Hierarchy who has gone close on his last two runs in Group company and if as good at the minimum trip he will go close. Fillies have a great record in this race so Guilded can’t be ruled out at a slightly bigger price but the selection does look solid.

2.10 Chepstow

A competitive renewal of the Veterans Handicap Chase at Chepstow and I’m going to take a chance on SIR IVAN coming back to form for Harry Fry. This 11yo has some of the best recent form coming into the race having won at Newbury in March and then ran well when third to Burbank at Aintree when last seen in May. He has Lorcan Murtagh taking off a handy 3lb again and he knows him well now. He is quite high in the handicap but is admirably consistent and that’s what you need in a race like this.

Geordie Des Champs is on a hat-trick having won over hurdles at Ffos Las the last twice. He goes back chasing off a reduced mark so has to enter calculations. Some Chaos is plenty talented on a going day and if his jumping holds up he would also be a big danger to the selection. Dancing Shadow best of the rest in an open race.

2.25 Newmarket

A decent renewal of the Oh So Sharp Stakes and Frankie looks to have landed the ride on an exciting prospect. GOOD AMERICAN was so impressive when winning a decent level fillies maiden at Salisbury last month. She made all and won cosily in the end which meant the time figure isn’t amazing but she had so much more in the locker. The two in behind her finished first and second in a maiden since so the form is solid and with usual progress she will take all the beating in this.

Pearl Glory is the main danger as she has progressed with each run and is rated 95 which shows the quality of this race. She failed in her hat-trick bid in a Group 3 last time and now steps up in trip. She is the benchmark in the race but I would rather the selection who has a higher ceiling and is proven at the trip.

Chepstow 2.45

The Persian War Novices’ Hurdle is usually won by a nice horse with the likes of Secret Investor, Thyme Hill and Mcfabulous winning it in recent years. Paso Doble is being talked up by Nicholls and could be a useful prospect in the making but I really like the chances of COEUR SEREIN for Jonjo O’Neill. This horse has been progressive in handicaps during the spring completing the hat-trick at Huntingdon in May. He drops back in trip but this strong travelling sort remains unexposed and I think the best is yet to come.

Plenty of dangers but perhaps First Street will give the selection most to think about. He is unbeaten over hurdles winning both starts and still looks inexperienced so there should be a fair bit more to come. I think the question is whether this sort of test is coming too soon. Up For Patrol is quite a big price and might run good enough to hit the frame.

Newmarket 3.00

I was hoping CHINDIT would drop back down to 7 furlongs before the end of the season and this looks like a good opportunity now in calmer waters. He has run really well at a mile finishing 4 lengths behind Poetic Flare in the Guineas and 3 lengths behind Palace Pier in France. They were both Group 1’s. He just doesn’t seem as good at a mile even though he has been in these hot races and his record at 7 furlongs is exceptional with 4 wins from 5. His only defeat at the trip was in the Dewhurst where he was likely out of his depth. This looks like a good chance to get back to winning ways and I’m sure he will go close.

Godolphin look to have both the dangers in Al Suhail and D’bai and I actually think the latter may be the main danger with his last two runs being good enough to go well in this. Double Or Bubble has been running well too so also has to be considered.

York 3.15

It doesn’t get much more competitive than this with it 8/1 bar the field at the time of writing. I like the chances of LA TRINIDAD back up to a mile. He won a fiercely competitive handicap over C&D back in July and has held his form reasonably well since. He was slowly into stride when sixth here over 7f last time and could never really get involved using up his energy at the wrong part of the race. He will be better back up to a mile and down a 1lb he can get competitive from what looks a good draw. 12/1 is available and I think that’s too big all things considered.

Challet was ahead of the selection last time out so looks the danger. That was a career best last time but I doubt he will be able to make all in this field so it does ask another question of him. Hartswood has won over C&D but does have a tricky draw out wide so will need a huge run to win this but could get competitive. Ouzo won this off the same mark last year and also has to be included in any shortlist.

Newmarket 3.35

I am not sure this is the best Fillies’ Mile we have seen in recent years but there is certainly one horse who could go all the way to the top. INSPIRAL is 3 wins from 3 starts with all three wins coming in comfortable fashion. Her last win at Doncaster in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes was another step forward as she travelled into the race like a classy filly and was pushed out to win by just under 4 lengths. If she is in the same form again for this she will take some beating.

Ballydoyle have a great record in this race and usually I would have ruled Concert Hall out of this but she could be dangerous after her last run looked a like a solid bit of form. She has had plenty of runs compared to the selection so would need to improve. Wild Beauty is rated just 3lb worse than Inspiral but did win a Group 1 in America in September. She has been beaten by the selection before but could be a live challenger if more to come at a mile.

York 3.50

A 10lb rise certainly demands more but NOTEBOOK is improving fast and looks well placed to bring up the four-timer at York on Friday. He was briefly denied a run before staying on strongly to win with plenty in hand at Hamilton last time. He steps up in trip again and is only going to get better as his stamina is drawn out further. Moliwood and Star Caliber should go forward and that will suit the selection if they go an honest gallop here. Testing ground would obviously be somewhat of an unknown but his dam won the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf on soft ground so it does offer some hope he will act on it. He is exciting and I want to keep him on side today and moving forward.

Fleurman has won 2 of his last 3 and looks progressive so might be the one to keep him honest. At a monster price don’t entirely rule out Eclipse De Lunar who could bounce back for a place.

Newmarket 4.10

This years Old Rowley Cup looks a hot renewal with plenty of these with very good chances on current form. INJAZATI gets the vote though after landing his hat-trick in impressive fashion at Newbury. He steps up to a mile and a half for this but it could actually see him improve even further. He has to carry a 7lb penalty but based on his last win that shouldn’t be enough to stop him going close.

Siskany is the danger even off top weight as he looks to be improving all the time with his second at Goodwood looking like top form. Of the rest Moshaawer is a player with plenty more to come it seems after a big run in the Melrose to finish second.
