Race 5 Bairnsdale 4.40 Unique Bambino (1/1)

Likeable type who had excuses when down the field on return at Echuca last time; collided with another horse at the start and got caught wide; sure to improve from that and this much easier so big chance.

This is a cracking chance for UNIQUE BAMBINO to get himself back in the winners enclosure. He needed that run at Echuca on return and I expect him to take a big step forward here. He gets the 2kg claim and if he bounces back he should have too much for these in the closing stages. Commanding Witness was beaten less than 3 lengths when second at Traralgon and if he builds on that he could be the main danger to the selection. One For Rocky isn’t entirely out of this but he did finish second last at Moe last time and that form just isn’t good enough for him to land a blow here even as weak as this looks. Mishe Mokwa best of the rest in a race lacking strength in depth.

Race 5 Ballina 5.30 Brave Nick (11/10)

Promising sort who impressed at Grafton and only went down narrowly when second at Murwillumbah on final start last season; still learning and can go well fresh so looks to have plenty going for him against these.

I think BRAVE NICK will be up to justifying favouritism at Ballina on Monday morning. He has a win and 3 placed efforts from 5 starts and with further improvement to come this term he can make a winning return. Andy won at Lismore last time and is progressing nicely so looks the obvious danger. Unearthed has just 1 win from 11 starts and is going to need to find something to upset the front pair in here. First Crusade improved to win at Lismore last time and also has to enter calculations but probably just lacks the potential of the favourite. Hard to see much else getting involved with perhaps Seneca Falls best of the rest if she comes on for that reappearance run.
