Sandown 12.30

We were with VALUE TIP when he sprung a massive 28/1 upset in the EBF Final over C&D back in March. There didn’t seem any fluke about that performance despite his price and I loved the way he jumped and travelled into it before staying on strongly through the line. This track seems to really suit his style and with 2 wins from his last 3 he looks progressive now. This will demand more up 9lb but after just 5 starts and only 4 over hurdles there is almost certainly going to be more to come. This is competitive as you’d imagine but I think 4/1 is quite generous about the selection.

Broken Halo has potential to do better if he can brush up his jumping and he looks one of the dangers. Champagne Court is consistent and runs well at this track so should also feature at some point. Mr One More won in tough conditions at Fontwell last time but he isn’t sure to be suited by this faster ground.

Sandown 1.00

This race looks to revolve around MINELLA TRUMP who couldn’t be in better form. He has won 5 in a row with his latest win last month as easy as you like. He gets to run off the same mark in this contest which makes him the one to beat even if this is a better race. Donald McCain is arguably the most in-form trainer right now with a strike rate of 35% in the past fortnight including a whopping 16 winners so that is another notable positive for the chances of the fav here.

Fifty Ball looks the danger based on his best hurdles form – especially his second in the Betfair Hurdle. He could be decent over fences but gives the fitness edge to the selection and might always be playing second fiddle. O Connell Street has taken well to fences winning well at Perth and did shape better than the bare result at Gowran so could run better than his odds suggest at least.

Olly Murphy has his string in great order at present and BOMBS AWAY looks hard to beat here under Aidan Coleman. This €90,000 son of Westerner made a really bright start when second in a bumper at Southwell 6 months ago. He just bumped into a more speedy rival on that day and the front pair came nicely clear. He looks a nice prospect to go hurdling and the money has certainly come for him this morning which is usually a good indication to his chances first-up.

Blairgowrie is the danger for Nicky Henderson. This son of Yeats was sent off just 2/1 in a bumper at Warwick and while he could only finish third he is likely to improve plenty now jumping obstacles. Of the rest Lavorante has experience on side having finished third over hurdles at Fontwell. He should come into his own as he is upped in distance though.

Bombs Away 9/4

Sandown 2.10

This race never attracts massive fields but 2 runners is a bit of a joke despite them both being decent horses. CHANTRY HOUSE gives weight to The Big Breakaway but he is rated 14lb better than him on official ratings. Chantry House finished last season with the Cheltenham and Aintree double winning two Grade 1s. He goes well fresh and will have to be very short of fitness to get beat here.

The Big Breakaway is a good horse but does fall short at the top level and may still be feeling the effects of a fall when he came under pressure last time out. A 2 horse race isn’t a bad way to build his confidence again but has a lot to find with the selection and even if finishing second here if he puts in a clean round that would be an encouraging start.

Sandown 2.10

Chantry House 2/5

Sandown 2.45

A lot like Jamie Snowden, Gary Moore has made a tremendous start to the season and is operating at a near 30% strike rate in the past fortnight firing in 10 winners. He has another good chance of a winner in NOTEBOOK at Sandown on Sunday. This horse has only actually had 4 starts under Rules winning two of them. He is proven fresh and remains open to further improvement on his return.

The obvious danger is the Alan King-trained On To Victory who reached a very decent level on the Flat and has already won twice over hurdles. He looks to be off a handy mark back hurdling so will definitely pose a threat but I think the selection has scope to do better and gets a confident vote to come out on top. Will Sting is down 2lb on return and also has to be noted but he might just be bumping into a couple.

Sandown 3.15

This looks a wide open veterans event and it can sometimes be hard to judge some of these older horses but MR MAFIA looks to be in fine form and is the one to beat. He won his last two with ease and is up a further 8lb for a 16-length win at Wincanton last time out. This is a better race but he could still land the hat-trick off this mark and is worth chancing at fairly decent odds.

There are a few dangers in here with Singlefarmpayment looking a threat the way he ended last season in good races. If near peak fitness he will be a threat on this fast surface but that is an advantage the selection has. Wandrin Star returns following a wind op so could also be capable of a bold show for Kim Bailey and David Bass.

Sandown 3.45

Nicky Henderson has won 2 of the last5 renewals of this race so Commodore Miller might be worth a second look despite disappointing at Market Rasen when last seen 6 months ago. He is quite a big price at around 14/1 so I thought he was worth a mention. My main play in the race though would be SANDALWOOD for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. This horse is well related and it wouldn’t surprise me if he made a winning start here for top connections.

Revasser as been the one for money for Lucy Wadham but he has a penalty to shoulder and that certainly won’t be easy. Salt Of The Earth won a point in December 2020 and he could also go well for Kim Bailey who does well in these races.
