Newcastle 2.37 Ascot De Bruyere (6/4)
Four-time course winner who put in a classy performance making all readily over track and trip on return following a wind op last year; goes well fresh and undergone wind surgery again; could boss this field from start to finish.
The way ASCOT DE BRUYERE won on his seasonal return over C&D last year was very impressive and if he matches that sort of performance here these won’t see which way he went. He is a classy sort on a going day and I think he is good value to skip home from Brelan D’As. The latter cashed in off a much reduced mark when winning well at Kelso last time but that wasn’t much of a race and up 4lb stepping back up in trip isn’t certain to suit. I think he’s opposable at short odds and that makes the selection a strong play. Ramonex returns following a wind op but he looked rather laboured last season and has enough to prove. Charlie Snow Angel has fallen twice in his last three runs.

Wincanton 1.15 Earth Lord (7/4)
Good looking sort who left previous form behind to chase home a promising horse at Taunton when last seen with the pair nicely clear; likely to have improved again and will be a danger to all if ready to roll on his return.
This looks a straight shootout to me between the top 2 in the betting and ready preference is for the Philip Hobbs-trained EARTH LORD. He was beaten just a length by the promising Grandads Cottage when last seen in March and with further improvement a near certainty he can make a winning return. Grosvenor Court showed a good attitude to win at Wincanton on return last month but he is burdened with a penalty for that and is coming up against another improving horse so might just struggle to defy that. Atakan is bred to be pretty useful but didn’t show a great deal when only fifth on hurdles debut at Carlisle so will need more here. Jersey Lady is also likely to find this tougher.
