NAP – Best selection of the evening

THE US NAP (BEST BET) RUNS IN RACE 5 AT GOLDEN GATE FIELDS ON THURSDAY NIGHT!

Race 5 Golden Gate Fields 9.17 Mecklenburg (11/8)

Promising type who showed a cracking attitude under pressure to prevail by a head over a mile here back in the summer; far from disgraced in stakes company twice since not beaten far; this easier so hard to oppose.

I’ll be surprised if MECKLENBURG is beaten here. He is quite a classy sort and has mixed it with much better horses than this field the last twice. He was only grabbed late on penultimate start beaten a length and a half and then probably did too much early when pegged back late by under 2 lengths last time. Back on turf and down to this level he should have too many gears for this field and I don’t think he’ll come back to them. American Farmer was only fourth behind the selection when last seen so has enough to prove to reverse that form. Ready Say Go won nicely over a mile here when last seen and may well be a bigger danger than the second fav but also has enough to find.

Race 7 Del Mar 10.05 Con On The Run (7/4)

Promising colt who showed potential when fifth on debut here on turf back in the summer; built on that to finish a good third at Santa Anita last month and with further improvement to come can open his account here.

I’m confident CON ON THE RUN brings the most potential to the table here. He ran a really good race last time and with natural improvement he should go a couple better tonight. He showed bright speed and was only picked off late by a couple of improvers. The second Town Boy won his next start and Clampett performed well to finish third next time out so the form has a solid look to it. I do think Explain This Audit is overpriced and may well be the danger. He was beaten 5 lengths into second on debut and will definitely step forward from that. Katonah has a future but was thrashed last time and has enough to prove off the back of that. The Key Is United is also going to need to improve a chunk to figure.
