Southwell 3.25 Foillan (6/4)

Improved for the step up in trip winning on handicap debut at Hexham last month, pulling clear impressively; up 7lb but more to come and should be ahead of the assessor for a while yet; easily appeals as the most likely winner.

Dr Richard Newland does well with these types and given how impressive FOILLAN was at Hexham last time he is hard to oppose up just 7lb here. I expect him to be ahead of the handicapper and with a clean round he can follow up under handy 3lb claimer Cillin Leonard. Grooveur was last seen in winning form at Ludlow and back from 8 months now sent handicapping he looks the one likely to emerge as the danger. Blow By Blow is very much exposed but ran well when a close second at Ayr and a similar run here would see him in the mix but probably vulnerable for win purposes. Of those at bigger prices Get Prepared might sneak a place but certainly needs to improve.

Carlisle 12.30 Rollerruler (6/4)

Made a winning start for this yard making the breakthrough at Hexham last month, always doing enough; up 5lb but can jump better and remains open to further improvement so good chance to follow up.

I can see Derek Fox following similar tactics that saw Sam Coltherd successful on ROLLERRULER at Hexham last time. He bounced him out and made virtually all the running and he seemed to enjoy himself despite making the odd mistake. With a better round of jumping he should be up to defying a 5lb rise. Just Call Me Al is a decent yardstick and he clocked a career best winning at Sedgefield last month. He is yet to win over fences though so is going to need to build on that again but has to be feared. Cellar Vie has been nibbled at in the betting but he lacks experience and will need the cheekpieces to help him get involved. Millarville best of the rest but is out of form.
