Newbury 12.20
Alan King and Paul Nicholls have really good records in this race and the latter looks to have the one to beat based on her flat form. ONE JOURNEY was last seen in October at the track on the flat winning a handicap by 6 lengths off of a mark of 90. If she is as good over jumps she should be go very well here.
Moulins Clermont is the main danger based on his run in April in France. If back in that form he will go well but has to bounce back from a poor run last month. Alan King’s Forever William wasn’t anywhere near as good as the selection on the flat but could be much improved over hurdles.
Newbury 12.50
It was a bit disappointing at the time to see I AM MAXIMUS beaten on hurdles debut but in hindsight it was still an encouraging run. He only went down a length at the line and given the winner Jpr One was gone mightily close at Cheltenham on his next start the form has been given a nice boost since. The selection is sure to improve and he remains a nice enough prospect going forward. This doesn’t look the strongest of maiden hurdles so it will be a shock if he is beaten here.
Raymond Tusk was a decent horse on the Flat but he failed to meet market expectation on hurdles debut at Market Rasen. If he leaves that behind he could be the one to chase home the odds-on fav but still has enough to prove right now. Crypto Currency is also expected to be in the mix for a place but also needs to improve on what we’ve seen.
Newbury 1.25
An interesting race with Valsheda running here but I am happy to take him on with QUARTZ DU RHEU. He has been in great form over fences (1st, 2nd, 1st & 1st). He won nicely at the Carlisle in October and has only been raised 2lb for that win and looks more than capable of backing that up here.
Valsheda won at the second time of asking over hurdles at this trip and is clearly talented but I went with the experience of the selection. Valsheda is making his chase debut after a break which is a big ask no matter how talented he could be.
Newbury 2.00
I don’t think Silver Forever deserves to be as short as she is in here. I know she has won 6 times already and has been a real money-spinner for the yard in that regard but she only beat one rival home here last time and this is likely to be much more competitive. I know Imperial Alcazar is a decent horse but he never really looked happy the last day and was comfortably held in the end. VALUE TIP looks the value.
She looked to be carrying a fair bit of condition to me when winning at Market Rasen last month and I know she goes well fresh but I think she’ll come on for that run and given she holds the likes of Casablanca Mix and Momella I think this represents a great chance for her to win again. There’s plenty of pace on so she should get a nice toe in before looking to get the better of the argument probably with Silver Forever. Legends Gold best of the rest and might run into a place.
Newbury 2.35
This looks like a top quality renewal with 3/4 above average horses in here. WONDERWALL gets the marginal vote with his bumper form putting him right in the mix here if fully fit off a break. He won first time out before going very well in a decent Listed race. He then fell short in the Champion Bumper but his Listed form would put him right in the mix here.
Shearer and Pull Again Green are both dangers after finishing close seconds on their last starts with the former having a bit more scope for improvement. The other horse who could improve a bundle is Guardino who was sent on hurdles debut and may improve for that run.
Newbury 3.05
Only the 4 horses heading to post here and I don’t really see an upset given the run of form DARLING DU LARGE is on right now. She made it 3 in a row at Wetherby last month and with Thomas Doggrell claiming a handy 8lb she should take a lot of beating again. She was always on top last time and only had to be pushed clear to beat Cedar Hill.
Only Money failed to back up that Huntingdon win when running poorly at Plumpton but should be better than that and looks most likely to chase the fav home. Le Coeur Net and Doukarov are hard to split but both have enough to find to land a blow.
Newbury 3.35
This race does usually go to a newcomer but I think POETIC MUSIC might be able to make it 2 wins from 2 runs. She won nicely at Market Rasen back in October and has since been moved to the Fergal O’Brien yard. That race has already produced a couple of winners so the form looks solid and she is the one to beat here.
It is hard to know how good some of these newcomers are with Up And Out looking one of the better prospects on paper and could be dangerous. That said it would take a good one to beat the selection even if she does carry a penalty.
