Ascot 1.50

Palmers Hill is going to be popular here having won with a bit in hand at Wetherby 5 weeks ago but this is a different test and I think he is short enough considering. I prefer the chances of GUY for team Twiston-Davies. He has run two very good races since returning bumping into Senior Citizen at Market Rasen and then finding a decent yardstick in Pink Legend too strong over further here last month. With that under his belt back down in trip I think he’ll go close off this current mark.

Knight In Dubai didn’t shape badly at Aintree and if he comes on for that he will get competitive here. I feel with him it’s whether he can get into a rhythm early as he is a big threat when he is doing things within his comfort zone. Sully D’oc Aa is also worth a mention and it will be interesting to see if he is backed in the betting.

Haydock 2.05

This looks a fairly open renewal with plenty in with chances with UP FOR PAROL getting the narrow vote. He struggled over fences this season which has brought his handicap mark down and he could be back to his best over hurdles. He won his last two races over hurdles with relative ease and could be well handicapped if bouncing back here. The yard have started the season in really good form which is another positive about his chances.

Mackelduff impressed at Aintree before not having it go his way at Cheltenham when last seen. His form looks solid making him a danger to all. Stellar Magic might need the run but on his previous form could be right in the mix. Boss Man Fred could also run well back over hurdles.

Ascot 2.25

It’s such a shame we have lost Buzz here and fingers crossed all is okay with him as it doesn’t sound good currently. He was looking such a promising horse and surely would have made all of these go some to beat him. With him out it does look a good opportunity for THYME HILL to get back on track. Things clearly didn’t go to plan in France but I’m willing to forgive him that and he had looked really progressive prior to that disappointment. With enough doubts over the others it really is a chance he shouldn’t be spurning.

Back over hurdles Champ could emerge as the danger. He clearly has an engine and if handling the switch back he could run a big race for Nicky Henderson. Ronald Pump is over from Ireland but I feel people often get carried away with this horse because he is usually overlooked in the market but that’s not the case this time and I couldn’t have him.

Haydock 2.40

David Pipe has a good record in this race and he has a great chance with REMASTERED if nothing amiss after his fall at Newbury last month. He was travelling well when coming down and would have been involved at the finish for sure. He is off the same mark and is the one to beat with a clear round here.

At a bigger price Buzz De Turcoing could be the main danger after a nice win at Ayr last month. He has very good form at trips around 3 miles and could have more to come. Calipso Collonges also has to be respected but this is tougher.

Ascot 3.00

Belami Des Pictons should go well for Venetia Williams but I’m going to take a chance on one at a double-figure price in STORM CONTROL for Kerry Lee. This horse wears his heart on his sleeve and if he bounces back here and gets into a good rhythm off the front he might prove hard to catch. He has had a wind op since pulling up at Cheltenham and the switch in tactics clearly didn’t work. He is back down 2lb and looks off a good weight.

Caribean Boy shaped with promise when midfield at Cheltenham on return and if he comes on from that he is handicapped to have a say. Annsam is another one that could go well if his jumping holds together.

Ascot 3.35

This looks a very competitive handicap with plenty of quality in here it is hard to rule any out. NO ORDINARY JOE ran a cracker at Cheltenham to finish 3rd and will no doubt improve again with the race representing a big step forward. If he improves for that run he won’t be far away even in this deep race

West Cork won that race at Cheltenham in a close finish and has been put up 7lbs. HE might be capable of going in again but it is a tougher ask off 141. Goshen is interesting in here but has become very hard to trust. The other who could be a big threat is Samarrive who has won 3 of 4 hurdle starts and clearly improved with fitness last time out.
