Newbury 1.25

Wide open race to kick off ITV on Wednesday but I do like the chances of HEART OF A LION at a price. He impressed me with how he beat Obey The Rules on chase debut at Ludlow. I just think his jumping cost him when third at Huntingdon last time and he is still learning his trade in this sphere. With more to come he could be overpriced to get back on track here and I’m going to put him forward.

Gallic Geordie is chasing a hat-trick but this is tougher and he has a penalty. He should go well but is short enough. Early Du Lemo shaped well at Sandown and his mark has eased a bit but he doesn’t win all that often. Doukarov also deserves a mention having won over C&D last time.

Leopardstown 1.45

This looks like a good renewal perhaps without being a top level renewal such as last year which was won by Monkfish. VANILLIER gets the narrow vote in a competitive race as I think he has plenty to come. His win at Punchestown last month couldn’t have been easier and the step up to 3 miles again will only suit him more. I would be disappointed if he didn’t go close.

Run Wild Fred for Gordon Elliott is the main danger as he is never far away. His run at Navan was a good win which followed a second behind the classy Cape Gentleman. He looks a proper stayer and will make it a test for the selection. Fury Road and Ontheropes should fare best of the rest.

Newbury 2.00

Masters Legacy has been in good form winning at Chepstow and then runner-up over C&D last time but then so has VALUE TIP and I think the latter is open to greater improvement. He ran to a very high level to win the EBF Final at Sandown back in March and did well to finish as close as he did when runner-up on return despite having lacked fluency at his hurdles. He should come on plenty for that run and off just a 3lb higher mark he looks to have plenty going for him.

The winner Jesuitique has advertised that form since beaten narrowly at Market Rasen before winning easily at Haydock. The third Champagne Court also won his next start beating another improver in Guernesey so it all stacks up. Pounding Poet was only narrowly denied at Aintree and also has good form in the book so looks one of the likely dangers.

Leopardstown 2.20

This really should be renamed the SHARJAH hurdle as he seems to turn up here and win most years no matter what form he has been in. He has won the last 3 renewals and comes into this with a good win in the Grade 1 Morgiana at Punchestown last month. He beat a few of these in the process and he should be even better for the run. There is no reason he can’t make it 4/4.

Zanahiyr is the danger again but he had already had a run before Sharjah beat him at Punchestown so you would actually expect the selection to be fitter now. Echoes In the Rain like Zanahiyr is a likely improver but will need to be better to reverse the form and I just don’t see it happening here.

Newbury 2.35

I’m looking forward to seeing SAINT PALAIS out again for Richard Bandey. This horse had some good form over hurdles without winning and hasn’t put a hoof wrong since going chasing winning both starts this term. He warmed to the task at Worcester and was impressive at Wetherby last time. The form has been franked since with the horse that finished last Admiral Barratry winning his next start by a whopping 16 lengths. He is open to further improvement and while this is tougher I want to keep him on side.

Gericault Roque shaped with promise on debut over fences when third at Wetherby and stepped forward again to finish second to Pats Fancy at Chepstow. That is very strong form so he looks the obvious danger. Nestor Park has experience on side and looks to be best of the rest.

Doncaster 2.50

Very open race with plenty with decent chances. OSCAR ROBERTSON really made his mark when winning easily at Wetherby last month and the handicapper couldn’t go crazy with the penalty as he was left clear by a faller. He looks like he is better than a mark of 124 and is the one to beat here.

Chirico Vallis is the danger after a win at Cheptstow in October however he may not be that well handicapped now raised 5lb. Of the rest Cool Mix and Port Of Mars could be live dangers at bigger prices.

Newbury 3.05

This looks a deep renewal of the Challow with the exciting NOTEBOOK heading the betting for Paul Nicholls. The yard won this last year with Bravemansgame and look to have another great chance of taking the prize home. This son of Fame And Glory has won both starts over hurdles with a minimum of fuss and was particularly impressive again over C&D last time, galloping on relentlessly to win easily. He is yet to be tested and while this is tougher I think there is much more in the locker yet so he can bring up the hat-trick.

Lossiemouth has been progressive himself since the blinkers have gone on bringing up a hat-trick of wins at Sandown. He has to be feared but the selection brings greater potential to the table. Gringo D’Aubrelle would have been targeted for this so also needs respecting.

Doncaster 3.20

On ratings this looks a two horse race between ZAMBELLA and Kapga De Lily. The former gets the vote after good win in a similar race at Aintree last month. She beat last years winner of this race Annie Mc that day with relative ease and if in the same form she should take some beating.

Kapga De Lily has started the season winning both of her races in handicap company and is now rated 140 which is about right to compete in a race at this level. She was passed over for the selection as I think she is better over further and this might not suit as much.

Newbury 3.35

A good race to cap off ITV Racing on Wednesday and PATROCLUS is interesting for Nicky Henderson now going chasing. He has always looked as though he was built for this sphere and connections sound pretty bullish about his chances. He won twice over hurdles before pulling up in a hot handicap at Sandown. I’m happy to forgive him that and given time since now jumping a fence I think there is good reason to think he is going to run a big race.

Flash Collonges was beaten a long way behind Ahoy Senor here last time but that was his first start following a wind op and he is entitled to come on plenty for that. I expect him to run well here but Fern Hill might be a greater danger. He was only beaten a neck by Come On Teddy at Uttoxeter and that form puts him right in the mix with further improvement to come.
