Cheltenham 1.25

A good renewal of The Dipper Novices’ Chase with a few real standouts in here. None more so than L’HOMME PRESSE who is 2 from 2 over fences winning at Exeter and Ascot in good style. A repeat of his 13 length win at Ascot would be good enough to take him very close here. He is still improving and is the one to beat with Venetia Williams continuing to fire in the winners!

Millers Bank was ahead when unseating his rider in a good race at Newbury and will be looking to bounce back making him one of the dangers. Alan King has a great record in this and The Glancing Queen should give him a good chance here but she might need to step forward a bit on her recent form to trouble the selection.

Musselburgh 1.40

This race has strength in depth so any of 3 or 4 could win it I think but I do fancy the chances of STONER’S CHOICE for Fergal O’Brien. He shaped well back from a 201 day break to finish a close third at Kempton in November and wasn’t disgraced in a strong race at Sandown where he finished midfield behind Pileon. He is down a couple more pounds for that and is now just 1lb above his last winning mark. He likes to go forward and in this slightly smaller field he might get on the front and get into a nice rhythm.

The danger would have to be last time out winner Kavanaghs Cross. He impressed at Kelso and if he handles the quick turnaround here he looks a danger to all as that form has been franked since too. Geromino also deserves respect but he was beaten at Doncaster and the handicapper may have caught up with him now.

Cheltenham 2.00

This is a wide open race with all of them in with a chance here. With there not being much between them and not many at lower weights standing out I am siding with COOLE CODY to back up his win at the track in December. He was unlucky to fall over course and distance the run before that as he would have gone close and he duly redeemed himself last time out. He was joined by Zanza before pulling away again up the hill. He clearly loves Cheltenham and will be tough for these to peg back at a decent price.

Zanza is slightly better off at the weights so could be dangerous again but the main danger might be Funambule Sivola who ran really well behind First Flow when stepping up to this trip and should go well even with top weight. Alnadam still has potential back in handicap company so it’s no surprise to see him vying for favouritism as they clearly anticipate a big run.

Musselburgh 2.10

Tommy’s Oscar is on a real roll at present arriving here chasing a hat-trick but he is up another 3lb and may find this tougher off a mark of 150 now. I like CHRISTOPHER WOOD in opposition for Paul Nicholls. This horse has run well without bringing the house down since returning following a wind op and I get the impression he could be up to running a big race off a further 3lb drop. He has won off 143 in the past so off a mark of 142 if he brings his best form to the table he obviously looks a great bet with Angus Cheleda good value for his 5lb claim too.

Fiveandtwenty faced a tough task on return at Wetherby but she will find this easier and she could easily be one of the main dangers. First Impression unseated at the fourth flight here last time so if bouncing back could also have a say. Anna Bunina is quite interesting too if ready to roll on her return.

Tramore 2.20

Like Sharjah earlier this week winning his fourth Matheson Hurdle AL BOUM PHOTO always starts his season off here with a win and looking at the field he would have to be way below par to get beaten here. He should win here before going on to another big effort in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham. He is never all that impressive but his class should see him home and that’s very much reflected in the odds.

It is hard to pick the danger as Hardline is hard to catch right. Acapella Bourgeois has been beaten easily here in a few renewals now and Burrows Saint has a lot to find with his stablemate. I think the latter might be the one that ends up finishing second though to give the stable a 1-2.

Cheltenham 2.35

I’d go as far to say as this is one of the races I’m really looking forward to from Cheltenham on New Year’s Day despite it looking quite a hard puzzle to solve. I’m sure BOTOX HAS is going to run a big race for Gary Moore. He likes this track having won here twice already and I thought he ran a cracker up to this trip for the first time when second to Kansas City Chief last month. He was held up and ridden quietly before making smooth headway and challenging all the way to the line. The front pair pulled nicely clear from a well strung out field and I think all is in place for another big run.

Pileon is a classy horse and I think he is the danger. He won well at Sandown following an encouraging run at Aintree and up 6lb could still be well handicapped on his old form and is entitled to go close. Tamar Bridge has won despite learning on the job but I just fear this sort of test might come too soon. I can see him running well but I have him on my radar for the future rather than today as this is definitely more competitive than what he has been facing recently.

Musselburgh 2.50

Just the 5 runners going to post for this and they all have fair chances with GAELIK COAST getting the vote. You can put a line through his last run where he slipped early on and never travelled after that. Prior to that he won nicely over course and distance and he really does show a liking to Musselburgh. He was dropped 2lb for the run last time and off 140 he should go well here. I thought he’d be a bit shorter than 4/1 so definitely a bit of juice in that price currently.

The main danger is Amour de Nuit who consistently runs well in very good handicaps and has been given a bit of a chance by the handicapper of late so may not be far away. He is short enough in the betting though. Gold Des Bois is consistent but usually finds one or two too good and that does look the case again here.

Cheltenham 3.10

I thought BREWIN’UPASTORM ran out a really impressive winner at Aintree back in November and if he builds on that in better company here he is going to take a lot of beating. There is potential for Stormy Ireland, On The Blind Side and main market rival McFabulous to push forward and if they do that would be an ideal scenario. Aidan Coleman will look to get the selection to drop his head early and if he can get him nicely settled I’m confident he can come through and pick them off up the hill.

McFabulous won this last season but was behind the selection at Fontwell and again at Aintree and has had his issues. Guard Your Dreams may emerge as a greater threat but also needs more.
