Musselburgh 1.00

Wide open race to kick off the day at Musselburgh and ZAFAR looks good value. You can put a line through his last run over further now he is back down to his favoured trip. A repeat of either of the runs around this distance would see him go close but to top it off he is 2lb lower here which should see him bang there at the finish. Theo Gillard is good value for his 3lb claim so that is another positive as well.

Diamond State won over course and distance last month and whilst he still has plenty to come he is up another 7lb here and that could make it difficult against the selection. Smart Lass shaped quite well when third here last month so also deserves a mention if building on that.

Musselburgh 1.30

This is quite a trappy race but DRUMBEAR looks like he is primed to run a big race. He won a bumper at Downpatrick on debut and performed creditably when third at Ayr under a penalty when last seen. Put away since he looks an interesting recruit to hurdles and should run well. That last run where he was beaten has worked out fairly well since so if he takes to hurdles he will go close.

Salvino ran well in a good race on return at Kelso and built on that to chase home Bill Baxter at Ayr. With more to come he could be the danger to the selection. Garde Des Champs was clear from the rest when second over C&D last time so could also run well but does need to improve.

Musselburgh 2.00

Just the 4 runners going to post for this race with BROADWAY JOE looking the one to beat. He is 3 from 3 since going chancing with his previous win by just shy of 10 length over course and distance. If in the same form here he will go very well again off 10lb higher. His jumping has really impressed so I think that will make him tough to beat with a repeat. He looks to have a great attitude too which always helps.

Kakamora is the danger if bouncing back from his comeback run where he was well beaten on chase debut. He is entitled to come on for that but I think he needs more to land a blow on the thriving Broadway Joe. Mackenberg shaped well at Wetherby on return but faded badly at Haydock.

Musselburgh 2.30

I know GEMOLOGIST remains a maiden after 24 runs but she has been knocking on the door recently and again ran a cracker when second to Set In Stone over C&D a fortnight ago. She ran on strongly at the finish and was beaten just over 2 lengths clear from the rest. She is only 2lb higher and with the cheekpieces back on today could possibly be the day. 10lb claimer Conner McCann looked good value last time so hopefully he can repeat the dose.

Ultra Violet was fairly useful on the Flat and stepped forward from his hurdling debut when third over C&D in November. He is unexposed so could run well in opposition. Court Jurado wasn’t disgraced at Catterick and remains on a workable mark so may well run into a place in a weak race.

Musselburgh 3.00

This looks like decent little race with the top 3 in the market all looking to have big claims in this. EAGLEHILL has won 3 of his last 4 over fences and his last run was a big step forward. He won by 8 lengths and could even be fitter for the run making a 2lb rise not looking enough to stop him winning again.

First Account is the favourite at the time of writing but he has been running at shorter trips recently so could be vulnerable back at 3 miles. Brian Boranha is my idea of the danger even at the age of 11. He has been very consistent at trips around 3 miles and could run a big race.

Musselburgh 3.30

A tricky bumper to close at Musselburgh on Monday and a tentative vote goes to DOM BOSCO for Tom George. This horse is bred to be pretty useful and showed enough for me when third at Ludlow to be a player here. He should come on for that initial effort and looks one of the more likely winners in the field. He just looked a bit outpaced last time so if sharper here can get into a better position early on.

Holmes St Georges is favourite at the time of writing and given connections has to be respected. He showed enough encouragement when fourth at Ballinrobe last May to have a say in the outcome here. Champagnesocialist looks best of the rest but does have a length absence to overcome.
