NAP – Best selection of the evening

Wolverhampton 4.08 Eagle One (2/1)

Won impressively over C&D last month, doing it readily in the closing stages; excuses last time as race came too soon; more to come yet and down 3lb can resume his progress here; market likely to be a good indication.

The money was down for EAGLE ONE over track and trip last month and he certainly didn’t disappoint running on well to win by 3 lengths. The runner-up Sophosc had won 2 from 3 heading into that and then pulled clear readily from his rivals to win again over C&D next time. That was a nice boost for the form and it backs up my idea that the selection just found that last race coming too soon. The handicapper has dropped him 3lb and he is open to further improvement so should get back on track here. I think the traders have been a bit generous opening 2/1 as I think he’ll go off shorter. Race Card is unexposed after just 4 starts and ran his best race to date when third last time so looks the danger.

NAP

Wolverhampton 4.08 Eagle One (2/1)

Dundalk 4.15 National Gallery (2/1)

Caravaggio colt who left his debut run behind to go down just half a length over C&D last month, that good form; open to further improvement and likely to be even more streetwise now so leading claims in this field.

This looks between the top 2 in the betting and I think NATIONAL GALLERY has the edge. This colt by Caravaggio had I Am Joking trailing in third on that last run and given he could be open to further improvement after just 2 starts I think he’ll confirm that form tonight. He is very much still learning his trade and looks the most obvious winner to me. Mna Na Mhi has been backed again. She ran on well from well off the pace to finish second over C&D on debut and with natural progression should fight it out with the selection. Artistic Rhythm is the most interesting debutant but unless the market really spoke in her favour I’ll be surprised if she is forward enough to win this contest.
