Exeter 1.40

A very open race to kick off the card at Exeter with HOPE YOU DO heading up the market at the time of writing. He has been improving slowly with his best run so far at the track in November on his handicap debut. He gets a 10lb claimer on him here in Jack Martin and it could be ideal to get his head in front after two thirds on his last two starts. He’ll be ridden quietly and hopefully gets a good pace to aim at.

The main danger could be Earth Business who could be very well handicapped now down in trip and in first-time cheekpieces. At a massive price STEADY THE SHIP could run well with Kevin Brogan in the saddle claiming a valuable 3lb. Probably does need a bit more help from the handicapper but certainly considered at 16/1.

Exeter 2.10

Nicky Henderson continues in great form and he’ll be hopeful the promising DUSART can remain unbeaten over fences. He got the job done as expected on debut in this sphere at Leicester and given he is likely to improve from that initial experience he should have a good chance of making it 2-2. Pats Fancy would have been a big danger so it’s a shame he has come out now as the price has completely collapsed.

His form over hurdles was really solid and he has always been thought of as a chaser. He should jump better than he did at Leicester with that experience under his belt and he can only improve. The only danger I see now is Flash Collonges but he has enough to prove after pulling up at Newbury.

Exeter 2.40

In a race which lacks depth it very much looks between Midnight Callisto and FLYING SARA with the preference for the latter. Jack Barber’s mare has some good form in national hunt Flat races and in a contest which is there for the taking it is amongst the best on offer. If as good over hurdles on debut she will be the one to beat and I think that’s being reflected in the market as she is a warm order at the time of writing.

Midnight Callisto has some good handicap form in the book and will put her experience to good use but she has had plenty of chances to get that first win. She might just find the selection too good. Parisian Blue is best of the rest for Nicky Henderson but looks to have her work cutout against the front pair.

Exeter 3.10

I’m surprised the front two are so close in the betting as I’d have CREDO clear fav. I know she hasn’t looked entirely straightforward but I think it’s quite clear the ability is there and following a wind op this looks a great opportunity for her to get her head in front over hurdles. Her bumped form is very decent and she brings plenty of potential to the table. Definitely the one to beat and should be odds-on in my book.

Finest View would still be the danger as she is well bred and made an encouraging start over hurdles when second to Petticoat Lucy at Wincanton. With usual improvement she should give the fav a race. Bar the front pair Sweet Nightingale could run better than her odds suggest switched to handicaps now.

Exeter 3.40

This race is an interesting one with plenty of potential improvers here over fences. AMBION HILL really stepped forward for his chase debut at Ludlow in December finishing second behind the reopposing Jobesgreen Lad who has won well since. He should come on plenty for that experience and should have a good chance to turn the tables with massive swing at the weights.

Jobesgreen Lad is still the danger going for his hat-trick but has been raised 9lb for his win at Hereford last month. He still likely has plenty to come but I am not sure he is that far enough ahead of the selection to be giving him weight. Wavering Dawn is the other one in here who could go well on his chase debut.

Exeter 4.10

I’m keen to side with NOTEBOOK making the breakthrough here following a promising effort on debut over hurdles at Taunton. He went down just a length and a half on that occasion and the front pair pulled some 18 lengths clear from the rest. The winner had experience on side and is a nice prospect himself for Paul Nicholls. The selection is sure to come on from that initial effort and this looks a good opportunity.

The way he shaped suggests this longer trip will play to his strengths and I’m struggling to see why he isn’t favourite. Chavez also made an encouraging start when runner-up on debut over hurdles but the horse that beat him Nothin To Ask has been turned over since so the form has been let down a touch.

Exeter 4.45

Another open race to cap off the card at Exeter with a narrow vote going to RADDON TOP. He won at the track on his handicap debut and should have plenty more to come going up in trip. He was only raised 4lb for that win and should be going close if in the same form. He has drifted to an each way price which I’m quite surprised at as I thought he had solid claims. He should travel well and if he digs deep again he has to be involved.

Cooldine Bog is the favourite at the time of writing and should go well on his second run for Fergal O’Brien. Bean In Trouble has been ultra consistent in handicaps but may just find one too good as he has done a few times. Don Alvaro has been well backed and that last piece of form has been franked which brings him into it for sure.
