NAP – Best selection of the evening

Kempton 5.00 Take A Stand (11/8)

Promising colt who was a big eye-catcher over C&D on debut going down just a length at the line having run green; sure to improve from that initial effort and likely hard to beat here; potentially a useful prospect in the making.

It was very much ‘first day at the races’ for TAKE A STAND on debut last time. He came off the bridle quite early on and just had to be convinced to get back into the race before running green. He made some good headway and was doing all his best work at the finish. I expect him to be a lot sharper this time around and he should take plenty of beating. The most interesting of the debutants would have to be Hello Sydney who cost 80,000 guineas as a yearling. He is a full brother to Illuminate and is certainly bred to be a nice horse in time. The market should reveal clues but I think the experience the selections holds over the latter should be telling. Simply Sondheim also makes his debut here.

NAP

Kempton 5.00 Take A Stand (11/8)

Dundalk 3.30 Jaafel (6/4)

Showed plenty of promise on first two starts for Brian Meehan and missed by just a neck here last time on debut for his new yard returning from a lengthy absence; improving and can go one better here; looks an obvious chance.

This looks a great chance for JAAFEL to go one better. This son of Dark Angel showed plenty of promise in England before switching yards. He overcame a monster layoff to go down just a neck here last time and he won’t need much more improvement to take this out and belatedly open his account. Macadam’s Rock is the closest in the betting but I think he is pretty limited and he remains a maiden after 11 attempts now. He was a creditable third here last time but surely needs more and is running out of chances now. Gold Wing could be a greater threat as while she has also had a few chances she is probably open to a little more improvement yet. Elzaam Blue is worth a market check.
