Newbury 1.15

Some great racing on ITV on Saturday but we kick off with a tricky veterans handicap chase. I did initially like Aso but now he has been taken out I think it’s a good chance for INDY FIVE to taste victory again. He won well at Doncaster back in December and bounced back from pulling up at Sandown with a good second at Catterick last time. He is off the same mark and has more going for him than most.

Kauto Riko has been backed and should find this easier than that Cheltenham contest last time. He looks the biggest threat to the selection. Of the rest Prime Venture was back on track at Sandown and had excuses back over hurdles last time. He needs more though up 7lb back over fences.

Kelso 1.32

This looks like a very good renewal with plenty of the field winning in good company already this season. RICHMOND LAKE gets the nod after finishing second behind Jonbon who goes to the Supreme next week with a strong chance. The selection was only 3 lengths behind the latter and if in the same form he will be hard to pass under Brian Hughes who knows him well.

There isn’t much between the selection and North Lodge who has beaten him already this season but now has to give him weight carrying a 5lb penalty. He is clearly talented and will be right in the mix to land his hat-trick. Of the rest Honneur D’Ajonc is interesting and will likely make up the 3.

Newbury 1.50

Only actually a field of 10 heading to post for this but it is still 5/1 bar the field at the time of writing. I do like the chances of DUBLIN FOUR though for Fergal O’Brien. This horse made a winning start for this yard over C&D in November before falling at Ludlow last time. He was given a fair bit to do that day but did start to make ground when coming down. He has been freshened up since and looks set to run a big race under Paddy Brennan.

Hard to pinpoint an exact danger but Tamaroc Du Mathan has to be a player with Paul Nicholls back in form. He has a bit to prove but it’s no surprise to see him figuring fairly prominent in the betting. Glen Forsa finally got back to winning ways at Musselburgh and should also get competitive up just 5lb.

Kelso 2.05

This looks a wide open race and I quite fancy FAMOUS BRIDGE to make up for unseating last time over course and distance. He caught the eye the way he travelled into the race and would have seemingly gone close. He will handle the soft ground no problem and he looks better than a 118 rated horse. Brian Hughes is in the saddle and hopefully he is already in the winning groove having ridden Richmond Lake in the race before.

Hart Of Steel would have been my idea of the danger but he is out now so that leaves Wilde About Oscar for Dan Skelton. He would need to rediscover his old form to win this off top weight but I certainly wouldn’t rule him out. Of the rest Aurora Thunder should go well after finishing second in the race the selection unseated in.

Doncaster 2.20

I think the bookies have made an error here as MISS FAIRFAX looks overpriced to me at 9/2. She was always going to come into her own up in trip and she still looked quite raw to me beating a subsequent winner in Eureka Creek at Exeter. She improved again to win impressively at Catterick and is clearly capable of better again. She remains unexposed and with more to come as her stamina is drawn out she can outgun this favourite.

Get A Tonic obviously has very strong form in the book so she has to be feared by all but I think she is short enough and her stamina is unproven over this trip. Holly Hartingo arrives on a hat-trick so she also has to have the credentials to get involved too. This is a good race but the selection is definitely overpriced.

I always like the Premier Chase as you usually get a fairly decent field for a Listed race. ESPOIR DE ROMAY is clear on ratings and based on his run when falling at Aintree he is the one to beat. He looked as though he was going to beat Chantry House before over jumping and coming down. He has looked a very good jumper before that and if he runs to his rating I’m confident he will win this.

Itchy feat usually finds 1/2 too good but is interesting stepping up in trip with first-time blinkers on. If he improves for it then he will be a danger but I still don’t fully trust him to beat the selection. Windsor Avenue gets 3 miles well and may even prove to be the main danger based on his recent form.

With course form of 122 I have no doubt THE BIG BITE is going to go close at Doncaster on Saturday. He has taken well to fences in the main and I thought he ran right up to form when beaten just a length over track and trip back in January. The winner Funambule Sivola franked the form winning the Grade 2 Game Spirit Chase at Newbury last month so off the same mark I’m expecting him to serve it up to these rivals.

King D’Argent finished fifth in that race but he was ridden quietly and was never really put in the race. If he builds on that he may well emerge as the danger to the selection. Cheddleton is a horse I like but he has gone off the boil somewhat and even back in trip I think he has enough to prove off his current mark. Malystic remains open to improvement but might need this back from a break.

Kelso 3.15

This race is made even more intriguing by Buveur D’Air dropping into handicap company off top weight. SAINT D’OROUX is the one I like here though and his form ties in well with Famous Bridge and Aurora Thunder who run earlier on the card. If they win he won’t be a double-figure price. He did it well on seasonal reappearance and back down in trip off just a 3lb rise he looks set to run a big race under 7lb claimer Ben Bromley.

Metier is the danger after he won a handicap at Lingfield quite impressively. They have found a softer surface for him again which he needs and the inclusion of Buveur D’Air means he carries less weight which should help his chances. Buveur D’Air is an exciting entry but you really don’t know what you will get with him.

Doncaster 3.30

Another really competitive race and I’m going to chance MISTER MALARKY to bounce back and come good. He was miserably out of form when last seen for Colin Tizzard but he is down 6lb and has had a wind op since changing yards. Richard Bandey is certainly capable and in a race like this if he rediscovers some spark he could easily serve it up to these. He is a good jumper when into a rhythm and could run a big race under Harry Bannister.

Le Milos has won his last 2 and up another 4lb he has to enter calculations. Storm Control was only grabbed late and the way he idles there is likely more if needed but he doesn’t always finish off his race. Undersupervision and Soyouthinksoagain are both big players as well. This is wide open!

Kelso 3.43

A good race to cap off ITV on Saturday and HEARTBREAK KID is fancied to bring up the hat-trick for McCain and Hughes. This son of Getaway took a while to get his head in front over fences but dug deep to follow up at Uttoxeter 3 weeks ago and with confidence high I think he is set to run a big race again up another 6lb. Hopefully he gets a nice toe in as I think if it pans out favourably he will be repelling them late.

Hardy Du Seuil won in likeable fashion at Hereford and bumped into Minella Drama at Haydock so deserves to be favourite off the back of those efforts. Dubai Days unseated over C&D last time but if jumping better could also have a say here. Seemorelights also deserves a second look in a race like this.
