NAP – Best selection of the evening
Kelso 2.40 Espoir De Romay (7/4)
Progressive form over fences and was set to give Chantry House a fright before falling at Aintree; below par at Carlisle but better than that and worth chancing to bounce back here; still retains plenty of potential.
I’m looking forward to seeing ESPOIR DE ROMAY at Kelso on Saturday afternoon. He was set to give Chantry House a real scare before coming down 2 out at Aintree last year and on that form he is very much the one to beat here. He had excuses at Carlisle and freshened up since I think we’ll see the best of him here before likely taking the path back to Aintree again this season. He is a good jumper in the main so granted a clear round I don’t see anything good enough in here to peg him back. Itchy Feet is at least interesting going back up in trip with blinkers reached for now. I don’t fully trust him though and I think the selection is definitely the one to beat. Windsor Avenue also has to be respected.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) ALSO WON YESTERDAY AND RUNS AT NEWBURY!
Newbury 3.02 Lord Baddesley (9/4)
Caught the eye closing up late for an excellent fourth in the Betfair Hurdle over this C&D last month, beaten less than 4 lengths at the line; well handicapped if building on that and looks the one to beat in this field.
Following a cracking run in the Betfair Hurdle over this track and trip 5 weeks ago LORD BADDESLEY looks to have a great chance of getting his head back in front. He was never going the pace to get to the leaders but he really made up the ground late on and that looked a decent renewal. He runs off the same mark here and he has to be a danger to all. I do like Black Poppy so he’ll be the danger to the selection as he can improve but I just think the selection is too well handicapped off the back of that huge run last time. Glory And Honour shaped well when fifth at Cheltenham but then took a tumble at Musselburgh. If his confidence remains intact he also has to enter calculations.
