Ayr 1.15

A competitive opener to kick off ITV Racing on Saturday and the vote goes to SEBASTOPOL following that impressive win at Kempton last month. That certainly didn’t come out of turn and given the second Golden Boy Grey has won well since beating Thyme White the form has been strongly franked. He is up 8lb but that looks manageable and I think he is the one to beat under Stan Sheppard. He will likely track the pace through and should be in the box seat to pounce.

Malystic is the most likely danger if managing a clear round. He unseated at Doncaster on return last month but if none the worse from that he should run well under Brian Hughes. Gold Des Bois was below par last month but if bouncing back should also have a say.

Newbury 1.35

This looks like a hot handicap with the majority of the 10 runner field in with a decent chance. ROYAUME UNI gets the vote after really stepping forward over this trip last month. He ran out a 7 length winner at Fontwell and was probably good for more. He should have plenty more to come off this 6lb higher mark and is the one to beat. If you look at his overall profile he remains relatively unexposed. At odds of 5/1 he has to be the value play as he might end up going off shorter.

Punctuation is the favourite at the time of writing, going for his hat-trick. If as good under an 8lb penalty and up in trip he will be a threat to all. Rainyday Woman is the other one I think could be dangerous if she bounces back from her last run.

Ayr 1.50

This looks a good renewal and as long as DUSART is over that Cheltenham run last time he will be the one to beat here. He was far from disgraced behind L’homme Presse in the Brown Advisory and it remains early days with him. He is unexposed over 3 miles and should prove a cut above these on his handicap chase debut. There should be good pace on and he will get a nice toe in before galloping on strongly under Nico de Boinville. His jumping can still improve so with a clear round it’s hard to see him beat.

Sounds Russian has improved to win his last 3 and he has to be respected on those runs but a further 13lb rise makes things a lot tougher now as that is a fair amount of weight. Doyen Breed is likeable and shouldn’t be far away. Lord Accord is also respected.

Newbury 2.10

This veterans chase is completely wide open with plenty of these coming into this off wide margin wins and rises at the weights. The play here could be FIRST FIGARO who is on a hat-trick after a 14 length romp at Leicester last time. He is up 9lb for that but still only carries 10 stone 2 lb and will likely be right in the mix. Ned Fox claims a handy 8lb and he looks to have more going for him than most in here. He will be ridden forward and should have every chance of coming out on top.

The main dangers are the favourite at the time of writing La Cavsa Nostra who looks a good prospect off 3lb higher than his last win and Indy Five who has been in great form bar one run on heavy ground and won’t be far away.

Ayr 2.25

This looks between the top 3 in the betting and I’ve sided with WEST CORK for Dan Skelton. This horse continues to impress and again ran well when fourth to State Man in the County Hurdle. He is only up a pound from that and is clearly thriving on his racing. He will be ridden quietly again here and if they get racing too soon this could end up panning out perfectly. Onemorefortheroad and Barrichello have the potential to take each other on and that would be ideal.

The former has to be respected but if he is softened up that won’t help his chances. That could leave Milkwood as the main threat to the selection. He won this from an 8lb lower mark last year and is likely best forgiven that last run.

Newbury 2.45

An interesting race with the two at the top of the market really catching the eye. I have given COREY’S COURAGE the edge due to her getting 13lb from the favourite. She has won all 4 of her runs under Rules and has a great chance to make it 5 wins from 5 here. She continues to improve with each run and is likely better than her mark of 117. I know connections have been eyeing up this race for a long time with her so hopefully she can deliver as it will be a touching occasion.

Speech Bubble is without doubt the danger as she has already proven herself at this level behind Love Envoi at Sandown. That looks like great form considering she won at the Cheltenham Festival last month. If in the same form carrying top weight she will go close.

Ayr 3.00

I do like Minella Drama but he has to give a lot of weight away here and I expected him to run better than he did when nearer last than first at Kempton when last seen in February. It makes DO YOUR JOB a strong play at the prices. He was no match for Edwardstone at Kempton and then Third Time Lucki at Doncaster but he impressed winning at Newcastle last time and back into graded company he can back that performance up now. He can still improve his jumping and if he does he will be tough to beat.

Minella Drama is the main danger but if he struggles with a big weight then that could bring Jacamar into it who impressed last time and might still back that up even with this step up in grade. Il Ridoto was better than the bare result in the Grand Annual last time.

Ayr 3.35

After running through the trends I have two picks in this years Scottish Grand National both who ran well in it last year and I would argue they have a better chance this year. My first pick is THE FERRY MASTER who came fourth last year behind Mighty Thunder. He gets to run off of a 5lb lower mark this year and comes here on his second run following a wind-op. He should be better for his last run at Newcastle and will run a big race under Ryan Mania who has plenty of experience in these sorts of races.

COOL MIX finished in fifth behind the first selection in last years race and gets to run here off 6lb less. His jockey also takes a further 7lb off his back which could make a huge difference combined with a first time tongue-tie. He looks weighted for a big run and I would be disappointed if he didn’t at least place.

Kitty Light has been running well for the Christian Williams yard and I can see why he is the favourite but he carries a lot of weight and this race can be a big ask for a 6 year old. The main danger could well be The Wolf who ran well over a similar trip at Musselburgh last time out and could go close of just 2lb more.
