Race 7 Canterbury Park 7.20 Diamil (10/11)

Caught the eye on first start Down Under when runner-up over an inadequate trip here last month; quickly improved to win convincingly at Warwick Farm last time; more to come yet and should follow up here.

This looks a great opportunity for DIAMIL to follow up. He very much caught the eye on debut in Australia when runner-up here over a trip shorter than ideal. He improved to win impressively at Warwick Farm last time and with scope for further progression he should have the gears to follow up here. Easy Campese is a decent yardstick and he already has 5 wins and 9 places from 24 starts. If he brings his best form he will be the likely danger. Kalapour remains unexposed but might need the run coming over from Ireland. Welsh Legend is another one who should be involved for a place but hard to see her troubling the market leader. Irish Sequel could go well without being good enough too.

Race 3 Launceston 9.20 Vetlanda (11/8)

Good looking chestnut who shaped well on debut and improved to win convincingly over track and trip last month; sure to do better and well placed to follow up before going on to better things in time; keep safe.

The money was down for VETLANDA last time and she is likely to be a popular selection again here. She won that with a bit in hand off the front and with scope for further improvement I’ll be surprised if she is beaten. Copper Charm is 1 win from 5 but if she bounces back to her best she might be the one to keep the favourite honest at least. Upset has a poor strike rate and is 0/6 over this trip so definitely needs more to land a blow at the business end. Gee Gee Snowflake has a similar profile to the latter and I can only really see her getting involved if the principals run below par. Geegee Lucky Jess, Sweetsop and Likiliku all need to do better to get involved and I just can’t see it.
