Goodwood 1.30

Just the 4 runners to kick off the card at Goodwood but all 4 look to have a lot of potential. AL MUBHIR gets the vote after winning in his only run last season in a race that has worked out well with the second winning next time out. The extra furlong should suit him and being the least exposed in here could have a ton of improvement if ready after a break.

Tuscan won nicely in a good race at Newmarket earlier in the month and rates the main danger but does have to prove himself at a mile after he ran poorly on his only try at the trip. New Kingdom should be fit enough after a winter in Meydan and will be involved.

Newmarket 1.50

Roger Varian won this back in 2019 with UAE Jewel and he has another nice type lining up here in the shape of SUBASTAR. This Sea The Stars colt made a winning debut over a mile here in September last year and that looked a decent maiden on paper. He is sure to have improved since and I think he might be one to keep on the right side of for the season ahead. The market will prove informative but he is already being backed at the time of writing.

Nations Pride was 2 from 3 as a 2yo and also won in Dubai when last seen in February. He looks the obvious danger as the market is suggesting. Hoo Ya Mal remains a colt with potential so don’t entirely rule him out either a good renewal despite the small field.

Newmarket 2.25

This doesn’t look the strongest renewal and I am going to take a chance on GUBBASS building on his first run at 7 furlongs in the Greenham 2 weeks ago. That was his first run of the season and he only finished a few lengths behind Perfect Power who runs in the Guineas on Saturday. If he improves for the run he could go very close and it’s no surprise to see him proving popular in the betting.

Noble Truth is respected on his best form which came on heavy ground. He does go on good ground but needs to progress again to land a blow here. Ribhi is race-fit after a good run in a Listed handicap at Newmarket and could emerge as the main threat.

Goodwood 2.40

I’m going to take a chance on one here in the shape of LIVE IN THE MOMENT for Adam West. This horse was hugely progressive as a 3yo and he ran well in the main last year without getting his head back in front. He is now just 4lb above his last winning mark and 8lb lower than what he was rated at one stage. If he can rediscover some form on return (won fresh before) he is surely overpriced in a race like this?

Raasel looks the danger for Mick Appleby. I thought he needed the run on return at Musselburgh and he could resume his progression now at a track he is proven at as well. Stone Of Destiny is another one well treated if managing to get back to something like his best.

Newmarket 3.00

A very open handicap with the top 3 in the market holding strong claims. ABLE KANE edges it based on the way he finished last season and is still unexposed at the trip. His run at the track earlier in the month would have been a good prep-run for this and he should be ready to go well here.

Wizard D’Amour is improving all the time and is worth a go in a race of this quality but the main danger could be Shine So Bright who has the assistance of a claimer and has dropped plenty in the weights (rated 115 in the past).

Goodwood 3.15

This is a competitive renewal but I do like the chances of BARTZELLA for William Haggas. This filly is bred to be smart and she created quite a big impression as a 3yo last season winning 2 from 3. She won impressively at Ascot on final start making all the running and this looks a good starting point for her before stepping into Group company. I think Tom Marquand will send her on here and she might just take a bit of pegging back.

Silence Please looks the danger for Andrew Balding. She used to be trained by Jessica Harrington but did prove a bit frustrating for my liking. She is entitled to go well but I’m siding with the potential of the selection. Save A Forest is another one that’s capable but she might come on for this. Folk Dance is also noted at a bigger price.

Newmarket 3.35

This race very much revolves around YIBIR who even with a penalty it is his race to lose. His last two runs were top class winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf and finishing a close second in the Sheema Classic. A repeat of either run will see him win this well and it’s no surprise to see him a very short price at the time of writing.

The competition is as strong as you would expect and Raymond Tusk could prove the danger if the selection isn’t at his best. Of the rest Living Legend and Outbox could fight it out for a place.
