Chester 1.30

This looks like a solid renewal and I like the pair who ran Twilight Calls close last time out. That horse has gone on to run a huge race in the Group 3 Palace House at Newmarket so the form looks really smart. LOOK OUT LOUIS finished second in the race and has a great draw in 3 here. He has won at the track before and I expect him to be better for that last run and go well here.

Normally I would side with Night On Earth who is 2 years younger and finished third in the race behind Twilight Calls but he has a penalty and is worse off at the weights. He will likely have more to come but the difference at the weights could prove pivotal. At a bigger price Militia has a good chance from stall 1 which has had the winner of 3 of the last 4.

After wins at Huntingdon and Wincanton I thought ALBERIC acquitted himself well in defeat when third at Market Rasen last time. I still think he might have more to come off this mark and this looks a winnable race so he gets a confident vote to get back to winning ways. There is plenty of pace on which should help and if he puts in a good round of jumping he should be a danger to all in the closing stages.

Billingsley returned to form with a bang winning at Ffos Las back in February and ran well at Bangor last month. He is still off a decent mark so could be the danger. Planned Paradise is also interesting now tackling fences.

Chester 2.05

This looks a really competitive race and I have sided with the least exposed in the field KOY KOY. Andrew Balding has trained the winner of this a couple of times in the past and has a good chance with this colt. They seemed to find the key to him when going from the front with him, running out a 6 and half length winner. If ready to roll here after a break he will go very well.

Outgate from stall 1 will certainly be popular with Ryan Moore riding plenty of winners on day 1 of the Festival and will be a danger to all of his rivals. Outside World is also worth a mention as she only went down a length at Doncaster and will strip fitter now.

Chester 2.40

Aidan O’Brien has made a strong start to the Boodles May Festival winning the Cheshire Oaks and the Chester Vase yesterday and he has a good chance of more success with the promising STAR OF INDIA. This Galileo colt made a perfect start winning easily on debut at Leopardstown before looking like he needed the run when down the field in the Craven. He tried to make all on that occasion but was claimed in the closing stages. He steps up to a mile and quarter here which should suit and given his trainer has won 6 of the last 9 renewals of this race and he relies on just the one runner this year says a lot to me.

The danger looks to be Sonny Liston who has a similar profile to the selection and should improve from that Newmarket run. Cresta is also talented by the looks of it but a first-time hood is a bit concerning.

Chester 3.10

An interesting race with plenty of horses that at their best are capable of taking this race but have to prove they are at their best. ALBAFLORA looks the solid bet in the race as a repeat of some of her form from last season would see her win this. She goes well fresh and will take some beating under Rossa Ryan.

Believe In Love is likely the biggest danger on form but does sometimes need the run. Horses like John Leeper and Hamish could be involved at their best but can’t always be relied upon which makes the selection a standout.

I think it’s worth taking a chance on one in the shape of PRIDE OF AMERICA for Amy Murphy. This horse defied a big absence to win at Newcastle on return. That is very good form and while he was beaten at Pontefract last month that was by a nice horse in Baryshnikov. He is off the same mark here and with SDS up again could definitely surprise a few off the front.

The hat-trick seeking Pride Of Priory looks the danger for Haggas. He is up 6lb but has more to come yet. Enfranchise has been backed but I thought she had every chance to go past at Brighton. She needs to find more off her current mark.
