Chester 1.30
A fiercely competitive opener with any of 4 or 5 that could win this. I was with Boardman at Haydock last time and he should run well again but he is 4/1 fav at the time of writing and he might even get shorter and I think given how competitive this is I wouldn’t want to take a short price. I’m going to chance REVICH bouncing back for Richard Spencer. This horse was down the field in the Lincoln but that was a decent renewal and he should be fitter now. He has won over C&D and has Harry Davies claiming a handy 7lb so plenty in his favour now.
Boardman heads the dangers but Fools Rush In is another one I expect to be bang there. He also acts well over track and trip and he won’t mind any rain. Boosala is also worth noting following an encouraging return at Listed level.
Market Rasen 1.50
Just the one race from Market Rasen on ITV today and it looks like a good contest with the majority of these in with a good chance. ROYAL PRETENDER is the one I like here and is a bigger price than I expected. He stepped up in trip at the track in March just losing out by a nose. He likely has plenty more to come over this trip and he will go well at a nice price now over fences.
Broken Quest arrives here on a hat-trick after two nice wins and rates the main danger in the field. He is up another 6lb here so may be vulnerable at the age of 10. Of the rest Railway Muice should be thereabouts.

Chester 2.05
I still have high hopes for MUJTABA and I know he blew out to some extent in the Lincoln but he wasn’t entirely disgraced beaten 5 lengths and I expect him to be a lot sharper now. He runs off the same mark and with this step up in trip sure to suit on breeding I think he represents a good bet to get back on track. The way he won on handicap debut as a 3yo was very impressive so there must be more to come yet. There is plenty of pace to tuck in behind here so hopefully Jim Crowley has him in a perfect position to pounce.
Brentford Hope has plenty of ability and this test will suit but he doesn’t have the best record fresh and it wouldn’t surprise me if he came on for the run. Lord Protector is one I expect to do well as a 4yo so he has to be considered as one of the dangers along with Baryshnikov. The latter won well at Pontefract on return and should remain competitive despite a 5lb rise.
Chester 2.40
With Al Aasy running at Ascot instead of this race it has left a wide open affair. MEGALLAN shades it with his comback run behind Master Of The Seas really good form. He is only 4 so is likely still improving over these trips and is the one to beat. He isn’t much of a price but does look the most likely winner in the field.
All of his rivals are 6 year olds which don’t have the best record in this race however Solid Stone will still be a threat. He held his own in Group 3 company last season so entitled to run in a weaker Group 2 but still has to make the jump.

Chester 3.15
The Chester Cup is always a good spectacle and Dettori was at his best last year on Falcon Eight. He is looking to defend his crown but is 5lb higher and is hard to warm to given his price. I prefer the chances of COLTRANE for Andrew Balding. I thought he shaped with a great deal of promise when second to Earlofthecotswolds at Kempton and freshened up with this the target looks sure to go close off his current handicap mark. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him one of the gambles on the day.
Solent Gateway was denied just half a length on return at Epsom and any improvement on that would see him as a big danger. Camelot colt Cleveland is well bred and if he gets the trip could also have a say in the outcome.
Chester 3.45
Interesting renewal of this race with King’s Lynn the favourite at the time of writing and I have a feeling he may be vulnerable even in a weaker race on his first run of the season. FLAMING RIB gets a narrow vote from stall 2 and I expect him to run a big race here. You can put a line through his run in the Greenham as the race didn’t really suit him but it would have sharpened him up for this. He is very quick and will likely make a bold bid on the front end.
King’s Lynn is the main danger if near full fitness but has to prove it on his first run of the season. Acklam Express could be a big danger if not getting too far back from stall 6 on his best 5 furlong form.
