Very competitive renewal even with just 6 runners likely to go to post. AILIE ROSE gets the vote after finishing second on both of her last two runs behind very good horses both times. She looks better on softer ground which she will get at Ayr on Sunday and she should go very close. While she was beaten some 8 and a half lengths last time she pulled 16 lengths clear from the third herself and the winner Gerri Colombe is unbeaten and has plenty of potential.
Gordon Elliott won the last renewal of this race back in 2020 and sends over Motown Maggie who may even edge it on form but has a penalty to carry which I think is enough to sway it in the selections favour. Miss Milano is open to further improvement so also has to be noted but might need more time and experience.
Ayr 1.30
Fever Roque won by 14 lengths at Market Rasen last month and is unexposed with the yard firing but he is up 9lb and I’m not sure he beat a great deal. He can obviously improve so I’m by no means writing him off but at odds-on I’m keen to play VALUE TIP against. The latter himself is very much unexposed and I thought he shaped as though he’d improve for the run when beaten 9 lengths into third over C&D last month.
That was his first start following a wind op so there’s good reason to think he’ll come on for that as it’s usually second time out they see the benefits. 5lb claimer Alan Doyle has been booked for his handicap debut and a mark of 104 should be well within reach. He chased home Broomfield Burg in a point to point over 3 miles so should be hitting the line strong over this trip. Pure Surf will enjoy the drop back in distance but definitely needs more here.
Ayr 2.00
Another small field with just five set to run here and CRACK DU NINIAN is the one they have to beat. He routed his rivals at Hexham in November and ran well here last week to finish second. He didn’t jump well that day but still finished runner-up and the first-time cheekpieces today should make a big difference and I think he will take some beating. There is quite a bit of pace on so he should be held onto early before picking them off. Hopefully he jumps a bit better this afternoon.
There are plenty of dangers in this competitive race and Hasankey is likely the main one and is favourite at the time of writing. He won by 48 lengths at Fontwell last time and likely still has a bit more to come despite the penalty. Democratic Oath is capable but will have to better than reappearance third where he was beaten 14 lengths.
Ayr 2.30
I think today could be the day ARDERA CROSS gets his head back in front. He loves it here having won 3 times here last season including twice over track and trip. While he hasn’t fired so far this season he hasn’t been running badly and wasn’t disgraced again over C&D last time. He drops down into easier company and I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t go close. He is an 11yo now but I feel still has a big run in him and 9/2 looks quite generous seeing as we know he is capable on a going day.
Barnay is fav at the time of writing but I feel he saves a bit for himself and has a tendency of passing over good opportunities. This will take some getting and I think he might be opposable. Fourth Of July is a big price and it wouldn’t surprise me if he managed to hit the frame but obviously still has a bit to prove.
Ayr 3.00
A pretty open handicap hurdle but I would expect UNIVERSAL FOLLY to bounce back now back at 2 miles. He won really well at Carlisle on soft ground in October before stepping up in trip last month and only just lost out. He is back to 2 miles on very soft ground and I would be disappointed if he couldn’t get back to winning ways. A mark of 114 definitely looks within reach and I think he should be a bit shorter than 5/2.
Cellar Vie was behind the selection at Carlisle but that was his first run of the season so may be able to get a bit closer this time and is the main danger. Kinnegad Lad was beaten 5 lengths into third when last seen at Limerick and could also run well if fit enough on return.
Ayr 3.30
Unless any of the newcomers are decent this looks BURN THE EVIDENCE‘s to lose. She has improved with each run and sets a clear standard for the others to aim at. She probably opened a bit short but looks about right now at 13/8 and should put her experience to good use here in likely very testing ground. The only other horse with experience is Brompton Park and I expect her to give the selection a nice toe in.
Of the debutants Tfou lines up for Nicky Richards and cost €180,000 so could be a nice type. Ring Pretender was just £22,000 and is likely to need the run along with Gie It Laldy who has enough to prove on paper in comparison to the market principals.
