Thursday Night Football Bets

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL KICKS-OFF AT 1.20AM (Friday UK time)

Game Spread – New England Patriots -16.5 | Game Total – 42 points

NFL week 6 kicks-off with last seasons Super Bowl winners New England Patriots hosting the struggling New York Giants.

The Patriots come into this game flying with a 5-0 record, one of only two teams left unbeaten (San Francisco 49ers the other) and will look to make it 6-0 on this short week. Daniel Jones has been a bright spark for the Giants coming in at quarterback but with plenty of injuries there 2-3 record so far may get worse before it gets better.
Key Stats
  • Giants are struggling – As we mentioned the Giants have chucked rookie Daniel Jones in as starting quarterback over veteran Eli Manning as the they have won just 2 of their last 8 games.
  • Covered the spread in 7/9 – The Super Bowl winners have carried on where they left off covering the spread in 7 of their last 9 games.
  • Under the total in 5/6 – New England are blowing teams away making games actually stay under the total as they usually have it won with a quarter to go so they just play out the clock.

Can the Giants make an impact with all these injuries?

The Giants could really do without this short week with injuries galore. They have been without their main-man Saquon Barkley for a few weeks already and he is close to coming back but they are unlikely to risk him for this game.

His backup Gallman is in concussion protocol and will probably miss out leaving the run-game in tatters. Another in concussion protocol is Daniel Jones’ main target Sterling Shepard, combined with Evan Engram struggling with a sprain it leaves Jones with very few options.

If they all can’t play that will account for 7 of the 11 touchdowns scored this season not in the side making Daniel Jones the highest touchdown scorer on the field (2 touchdowns).

Is this Patriots Defence stoppable?

The Patriots defence is ranked the best in the league giving up just 6.8 points per game on average. They are currently on track to break the record for number of sacks in the season.

Their secondary is also playing so well with 11 interceptions, Devin McCourty leads the way with 4 of them. Looking at the numbers it is hard to see how the Giants will stay in-touch in the game with a lack of offensive options against the leagues best defence.

Combine the best defence with the 3rd ranked offence going up against a Giants defence that is giving up over 400 yards per game.

Thursday night football verdict and bet

If you couldn’t guess already the Patriots should walk this with the Giants offence looking toothless against an amazing Patriots defence. They should cover the spread as I can see them scoring in the low 30s and restricting New York to very few points so I will double it with the under.

When I was looking through the prices I also thought Brandon Bolden to score a touchdown at 4/1 was pretty big with Dorsett likely to be missing he could get more of the ball and add to his 2 touchdowns.
