ADD SHISHKIN DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

Last year’s Supreme winner SHISHKIN is back at the festival now tackling the larger obstacles. Everything that could have gone wrong did last year and he still managed to run down Abacadabras. He has looked simply sensational over fences making it a perfect 3-3 at Doncaster when last seen in January. He hasn’t been out of first gear and could reach scary heights in time. With main market rival Energumene now out it looks a straightforward task for him to remain unbeaten over fences. Allmankind is likely to push forward and set a good pace and that will help the selection as Nico will switch him off early before bringing him through. I can’t see how he doesn’t go through the gears and pick up the leader up the hill as once he picks up he is so impressive. He is following in the hoof-prints of Sprinter Sacre and Altior and looks to have all the qualities you need in a horse to compete at the very top. In terms of an each way selection both Captain Guinness and Franco De Port make appeal.

ADD MONKFISH DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

Touted by many as the ‘banker of the meeting’ MONKFISH looks to be one of the smartest novice chasers I’ve ever seen. He has an effortless way of going and has looked a natural over fences winning 3-3 this season including two Grade 1’s in Ireland. He won the Albert Bartlett at last year’s Festival and has done nothing but improve since. He was just a shell of a horse last season and has really come of age now. Latest Exhibition, who is a useful type himself, tried everything to beat him the last twice but couldn’t land a glove. This horse ticks nearly every box and I think he’ll win this and be a live contender for next year’s Gold Cup. It’s no surprise to see him odds-on and I can only see his price shortening come post time on Wednesday. This race lacks depth and with Royale Pagaille destined for the four-miler or even Gold Cup The Big Breakaway is the likely second fav but he makes too many mistakes for me to trouble the selection. It wouldn’t surprise me if Sporting John ran a big race as he impressed at Sandown last time beating a good horse in Shan Blue and remains unexposed.

ADD CHACUN POUR SOI DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

Energumene has just been withdrawn from the Arkle according to Willie Mullins website so hopefully we don’t have any more last minute drop-outs as that’s exactly what happened with CHACUN POUR SOI last year. Thankfully we’ve seen him back at his best this season in Ireland with 3 impressive wins including two Grade 1’s at Leopardstown. He put in a flawless performance in the Ladbrokes Dublin Chase last time and he just looks to ooze class. That was his fourth win in a row making him 6 wins from 7 over fences. His only defeat came at the hands of A Plus Tard which was his first run back from a break. Form of which doesn’t look too bad now anyway. If he travels over then quite simply he wins this. He is one of the most talented horses we’ll see at this year’s festival and he looks another ‘Irish banker’ for Willie Mullins. Altior is second favourite which probably sums up the opposition as he is 11 now and was beaten by Nube Negra at Kempton just after Christmas. He doesn’t look the horse of old and this is going to take a phenomenal performance to win. I’m struggling to split Put The Kettle On and First Flow as the main danger to the selection.

Fourth selection in the acca

ADD ENVOI ALLEN DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

A perfect 11-11 ENVOI ALLEN is yet to taste defeat and I don’t think he will here. He is arguably the best horse in training and even with the switch from Gordon Elliott to Henry de Bromhead he has to be my selection. He just seemed to be toying with the opposition in the Ballymore last year before powering up the Cheltenham hill and he’s done nothing since that makes me question his ability. He is a perfect 3-3 over fences and is everything you want in a horse. The thought of him clashing with Monkfish in next year’s Gold Cup is a thrilling prospect. I think he’ll win this and again he could end up going off very short. Energumene is still in the betting and he was never running here anyway (now ruled out the Festival) and Monkfish goes for the Brown Advisory on Wednesday. Opposition are likely to include the likes of Shan Blue and Chantry House and while they are very talented in their own right they’re not on the same level as the favourite. Nicky Henderson reports Chantry House to be working notably well and he could be the one to chase him home but I’m expecting him to be a few lengths behind in second.

Marsh Novices’ Chase

Cheltenham Thursday 1.20 Envoi Allen (best price 4/5)

Fifth selection in the acca

ADD AL BOUM PHOTO DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

Willie Mullins is the most successful trainer in the history of the Cheltenham Festival with 72 WINNERS but it took him 31 years to win the Gold Cup, and then he won it twice. AL ABOUM PHOTO was sent off a 12/1 chance back in 2019 and put in a faultless round of jumping to stay on relentlessly and win well under Paul Townend. He followed the same preparation last year winning under just hands and heels at Tramore before returning to Cheltenham showing a tremendous attitude to hold on from Santini. He never does anything flashy and while he was fav last year he wasn’t that strong in the betting sent off a 10/3 chance. He didn’t jump as well as he can last year but was still always doing just enough and the fact that was a more slowly-run race if anything that’s another string in his bow as he is tactically versatile. Given it took Mullins so long to win this race I wasn’t surprised to see him take the same route this year. He thrashed Acapella Bourgeois by 19 lengths and while many argued it wasn’t visually as impressive as they’d hoped I was more than satisfied with that run. He is just a 9yo so you could argue he is coming to his peak now and I don’t see anything in here solid enough to oppose him with. He jumps and stays better than anything in this race and with a strong pace highly likely it should set up perfectly for him again. He is the highest rated horse in the field and if he runs his race he should complete the hat-trick.

Sixth and final selection in the acca

ADD ELIMAY DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

For our final leg in the acca we head to the Mares’ Chase on the final day of the festival where ELIMAY will be looking to give Willie Mullins another winner this time in the famous McManus silks. This loveable grey really impressed me at Naas last time and she should be spot on for this now. She has looked progressive over fences and lost little in defeat chasing home Allaho in January. That was an improved performance to beat Shattered Love easily last time and given she has only raced 5 times over fences she remains open to further progress. She jumps and stays well and has plenty going for her in what looks a very winnable race. Stablemate Colreevy looks the biggest danger so it could easily be a 1-2 for the stable. Annie Mc will have her supporters for Chris Hughes and co and while I’d like to see her run a big race I just think she lacks the class of the favourite. She should be galloping on well though and won’t be far away. It really does lack strength in depth as I’m struggling to see anything else with solid claims. That only strengthens my idea that the favourite is near ‘banker material’.
