Kempton 1.00

Only the four turning up for this with 2 of these on debut and the other 2 unbeaten. IMPULSIVE ONE is 2 wins from 2 runs winning by a combined 22 lengths. Nicky Henderson won this last year and even with the penalty for winning both his races Impulsive One is still the horse they all have to beat and that’s very much being reflected in the market.

Knight Salute is a danger after at a 9 length win on debut and was the highest rated on the Flat. Of the newcomers Painless Potter has a bit to find on Flat ratings but gets weight from the two with wins so can’t be ruled out.

Kempton 1.00

Impulsive One 8/13

Kempton 1.30

I really like the chances of ISOLATE here for Alan King. This horse reached a decent level on the Flat and won novices over hurdles at Taunton and Leicester last autumn. He made a promising start over fences when third at Stratford and improved on that to finish second at Newton Abbot when last seen in July. He is open to further improvement and this looks a good opportunity if he steps forward again.

Naizagai is the danger for Fergal O’Brien. He was a good second on chase bow 11 days ago and like the selection if he improves that would see him bang there in a race like this. Light N Strike has been backed but I’m not entirely convinced by him.

Isolate 7/2

Kempton 2.05

Only a small field again but this is a competitive little race with NOTEBOOK looking like the one who could improve to be the best of these. He has won his last two including his Hurdle debut at Warwick by over 6 lengths. That was a step forward from his NHF run and he should improve again here and be the one to beat. Both Hammersmith and Tulin look likely to go forward so I think the selection will be ridden quietly before looking to pick them up in the closing stages.

Tulin also made a winning start over timber at Taunton but didn’t find much off the bridle last time. He has been given time since and might do better this season but could end up setting it up for the selection and lacks match-fitness. Hammersmith could be a greater danger after winning his maiden nicely and running a good third in a decent Novice event at Listowel last month. Balko Saint will be dangerous but gives them all weight so it won’t be easy.

Kempton 2.40

Quite a tough race to side with just one but I guess a tentative vote goes to MERCIAN PRINCE to come good again for Amy Murphy. He isn’t getting any younger but ran a cracker when only denied late at Worcester last month. A similar effort to that up just 2lb at a track he loves would see him bang in the mix. I think Jack Quinlan will be positive on him and if he gets into a good rhythm he might not come back to them.

Goa Lil is likeable and has won 2 of his last 3 now. He remains unexposed over fences so looks the obvious danger to the favourite. Fairway Freddy might be the dark horse in here as while he was pulled up at Sandown he has been given time since and if he bounces back he is very interesting on the pick of his form.

Kempton 2.40

Mercian Prince 11/4

Kempton 3.15

This race looks like a match with the winner of the last two renewals SILVER STREAK taken on by Sceau Royal. Silver Streak is the highest rated of the two (161 vs 157) and seems to go well early in the season every year. He wasn’t at his best at Cheltenham or Aintree but this is an easier race than those at the end of last season. He has a great chance to make it 3 in-a-row here.

Sceau Royal is always dangerous over 2 miles and will be dangerous if at peak fitness for this. My only doubt was switching back to hurdles after finishing last season over fences. Teqany needs more and Alteatoric looks completely outclassed but should pick up some prize money for finishing fourth.

Kempton 3.50

Both Mister Tickle and Hawk’s Well are being well backed here so the market thinks it’s between that pair. I’m actually going to take a chance on the outsider of the field in WYE AYE. He has developed into a useful chaser (4 wins from 6 attempts) and was back to his best at Perth last time. He is only up 2lb and I can’t see how he doesn’t go close here if acting on the track. 7/1 looks a bit insulting.

Mister Tickle is the one to beat for me chasing a four-timer but he is up another 5lb so has gone up 13lb now since his winning run started which is plenty given how short he is in the betting. Ebony Gale also deserves a mention but this is competitive.

Kempton 3.50

Wye Aye 7/1

Kempton 4.25

Zafar is very much the yardstick here but is heavily penalised for his wins over hurdles. GALA DE CORTON gets the vote on hurdles debut after a wind-op. He didn’t show that much on his 3 runs in NHF races but it is enough to suggest he is at least good enough to challenge any of these and has plenty of scope for improvement which we should see on Sunday.

Cardboard Gangster is the danger after going close behind Zahar last time and now gets weight from him which should see him go close in this but I have a suspicion the selection may improve beyond them.

Kempton 4.25

Gala De Corton 7/2
