Aintree 1.08

The Pertemps qualifiers are coming thick and fast and this one is as competitive as ever even with just 11 runners. SOUTH TERRACE gets the vote as he seems to be improving all the time. His form earlier in the year is rock solid and reads first, second, second and second. He is up 6lb for that run but we know he stays the trip and if going well fresh is the one to beat with Sam Twiston-Davies in cracking form at the moment.

The main danger is REMASTERED who has to be of interest back down in trip off his lower hurdles mark he has to be in the mix if ready to roll. Pileon failed to shine over fences and lost his way even back over hurdles after but he was touched off in the Martin Pipe off a 6lb higher mark and a return to form isn’t entirely out of the equation here.

Doncaster 1.25

The racing at Doncaster on Saturday is fiercely competitive in the main so don’t be surprised that I’ve taken 3 against the field here. My main play would be BOARDMAN for Tim Easterby. This son of Kingman landed a hat-trick earlier in the season and while he has been quiet since he was back to something near his best when beaten narrowly into fifth at York last month. If he builds on that again off a 1lb lower mark he could have a big say here. My only worry is that it’s been a busy season.

Hollie Doyle gets the leg up on HAFEET ALAIN for Ed Walker and this horse caught the eye to some extent when fourth to Another Batt on return over C&D last month. If he builds on that he could get involved at a double-figure price. I also think BOOSALA has a squeak for William Haggas and is worth including. This son of Dawn Approach has only had 4 runs and it’s too soon to be writing him off. He has a bit to prove after that Ascot run but is surely better than that and this is more manageable.

Wincanton 1.50

Frustratingly both Bravemansgame and Faivoir are now out so the race has cut up plenty. Paul Nicholls still has a strong chance with MICK PASTOR to extend his good record in this race. Mick Pastor has won his last four chase starts with ease and nothing suggests he has hit his ceiling yet and has to be the one to beat here. He is stepping up in trip but I don’t see any reason why he won’t see it out.

Captain Tom Cat looked a natural over fences winning his first 3 starts but he’s come up short in better races lately and might just struggle to contain the selection in the closing stages. Jacamar is a decent yardstick who should make a chaser but this is a big ask on return and he is likely to improve plenty for the run.

Doncaster 2.05

Another tough race to work out so I’ve got 3 against the field. I like the chances of AINSDALE for Karl Burke. This colt by Mayson should relish conditions and he deserves to bag a prize like this. Plenty of his form stacks up and in a change of headgear he might just find enough to take this out. He finished midfield in the Champions Sprint Stakes last time and that was a good effort behind some classy types. This is easier and I think he is a knocking each way bet at 7/1.

The way BIELSA swept through to beat Great Ambassador in the Ayr Gold Cup was very impressive and while things didn’t go to plan at Ascot last time this track will suit him better (won here before) and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him bounce back with a huge run. Of the rest I liked the way MAGICAL SPIRIT did it over C&D a fortnight ago coming from off the pace and while this is a step up in grade he should get a good target to aim at. Plenty of dangers including King’s Lynn, the loveable Dakota Gold and Tarhib.

Aintree 2.15

The Sefton is always an interesting race and I think Jamie Snowden has a great chance with both of his runners here. HOGAN’S HEIGHT won this in 2019 and runs here off just 4lb higher. He ran in the Grand National last season and jumped round fine but got left behind. Back down to a mark of 138 I think he will go well after his prep run over hurdles.

Snowden’s other runner THOMAS MACDONAGH looks to be on a nice mark (130) which he can take advantage of here. He has solid form in novice chases. His trainer has been in the winners enclosure plenty so I would expect him to be ready to roll even off this 227 day break. Cat Tiger is a danger to all with his experience in hunter chases and it wouldn’t surprise me if Nicholls and Maxwell had this race in mind a long time ago and he will be near full fitness.

Wincanton 2.25

Hard to split the front 3 in the market here so I’ve decided to chance the one at the biggest price in WYNN HOUSE for Alan King. This mare by Presenting quickly reached a decent level over hurdles and I don’t think she is done improving yet even though she is a 6yo. She ran well on handicap debut when second to Precious Elenor at Ludlow and while a mark of 122 looks a bit steep I think she can land a blow here. I think she’ll enjoy this end-to-end gallop and she is the one that is a bit too big in the betting.

Une De La Seniere impressed at Ludlow last time but this is tougher and I feel she might be found out now up 6lb so at a short price is worth taking on. Rose Of Arcadia is who I see as the danger for Colin Tizzard as she won over C&D in February and is better than what she showed at Newbury. She still has potential to rate a lot higher I think. Of those at the bigger prices Emmpressive Lady could be the each way play.

Doncaster 2.40

The November Handicap at Doncaster is always tough with 23 runners going to post. A couple of each way bets for me in this with FARHAN being my stronger pick. He ran well at Newmarket behind Siskany which looks solid form. He is relatively unexposed at this trip and I think he could thrive in the soft ground and has a strong each way chance.

At a bigger price the in-form DARK JEDI looks a big price after losing out by a neck over course and distance 2 weeks go. He is only up 2lb for that and even though the low draw isn’t perfect his price is too big to pass up on. There are dangers all over the track but Calling The Wind and Global Storm look the most threatening.

Wincanton 3.00

I know IRISH PROPHECY isn’t always the most consistent and he might not be nailed on to back up that win here last time but it was hard not to be taken with that and at 9/1 I’m firmly in his camp again. He has a 7lb rise but he jumped really well on that occasion and if he repeats that it will put him right in the mix again under Tom Bellamy. This is competitive granted but I think the market has overlooked him on a career high-mark. He could have turned a corner and I’m happy to chance him.

Cap Du Nord is often overbet and finds himself at the top of the betting again here. He should be sharper but I think he finds a way to get beat more of the time and I’m not keen on his chances again. Hurricane Harvey looks a greater danger down 3lb from that fourth at Chepstow. Some Chaos is also a threat if putting in a clean round again.

Aintree 3.20

I’ve been a big fan of MARTELLO SKY for a while now and this progressive mare certainly didn’t let us down at Market Rasen last month winning impressively by nearly 10 lengths at the line. She should strip fitter from that and while this is tougher she has potential to rate a lot higher and I think she can upset a few here at a decent price. They could end up going hard here and that would set things up perfectly for her.

Both Summerville Boy and Brewin’upastorm are obviously plenty talented but they both have something to prove on return and I’m siding with a race-fit rival. Wilde About Oscar has won over C&D and might end up emerging as the main danger.

Wincanton 3.35

I didn’t expect SCEAU ROYAL to win on seasonal debut at Kempton as I thought it was a prep run for this. He beat Silver Streak easily and I think he will be hard to beat here. He won this last season by over 7 lengths and although this is a better race if in the same form I can’t see him beat unless Goshen is back to his best.

Goshen hasn’t been himself since unseating Jamie Moore at Cheltenham in the Triumph. If they have him back to his best he is more than good enough to challenge but it’s a big if and for me he has enough to prove. Belfast Banter put together a Cheltenham and Aintree double last year but has a bit to find on the figures with the selection so also looks opposable.
