Kempton 12.50

This novice hurdle is relatively weak with just a few of these having any form good enough to win this. MIDNIGHTS LEGACY is the one to beat after a very easy win at Plumpton on his seasonal reappearance. Based on his Flat form he should have plenty more to come over hurdles and even with the penalty he should win this for a stable in very good form.

Jay Jay Reilly is the main danger on his second run after a wind op. If he needed that run he may improve a fair bit which would bring him closer to the selection as he is getting 7lb from him. Of the rest Across The Channel is a fairly big price if ready to roll. Aweedram has been nibbled at but a place is probably his best hope on hurdles debut.

The way SOPRAN THOR won at Lingfield on his chasing debut was mightily impressive and a 7lb penalty is unlikely to stop him going in again here. He was still moving strongly turning in and took it up still racing enthusiastically. He was asked up at the last and jumped it beautifully before galloping away from them crossing the line some 19 lengths clear from the rest with them well strung out. The ground will be faster at Kempton on Monday but he won his final start over hurdles on good ground so I think he is versatile in that regard.

Brief Ambition is the danger if taking to fences. He didn’t look the most straightforward over timber but clearly has an engine so should keep the fav honest. Quick Draw didn’t shape too badly at Huntingdon and is likely to get competitive as well.

Sopran Thor 5/6 NAP

Kempton 1.55

Quite an interesting race with unbeaten DODDIETHEGREAT taking on some good horses who have already run over obstacles. He won both his national hunt flat races with ease and the latest run rates well. If Henderson has him fit for this he is the one to beat and that’s very much being reflected in the market.

Pontresina is a threat if he can run to the level of his chase form over hurdles here but he may need the run. Fifrelet is likely the main danger though as he has the fitness edge and has won 3 of his 4 runs including over hurdles last time out. He could make it an exciting race with the selection.

The money was down for ISOLATE over C&D last month and he certainly didn’t disappoint delivering an 8-length victory in the hands of Johnny Burke. That was a very convincing performance and it’s no surprise to see connections turn him out fairly quickly up just 5lb. He is still lightly raced over fences so there could be further improvement to come yet and I think he’ll be tough to beat here. Definitely one of my better bets on the card this afternoon.

I also thought OUR POWER was worth a mention now with Sam Thomas. He was pulled up on his final two starts for Nigel Twiston-Davies but as a result has come down a further 5lb in the handicap. He is on his last winning mark now and back down in trip he could run a big race with Sam Twiston-Davies back in the saddle. I’ve had a small saver at 13/2. Fairway Freddy possibly best of the rest and should strip fitter from that C&D third behind Mercian Prince.

Another Pertemps qualifier and another really competitive race. I am going to take a chance on UMNDENI reversing the form with the favourite for this race Calva D’Auge. He has put together some of his best runs at this shorter trip as we saw at Newton Abbot in August. He does run well at 3 miles but is better over this distance and that could be the difference maker between the two plus he is fully fit after a run at Exeter last month.

Calva D’Auge is still a danger to all with 3 wins from his last 3 hurdles runs and is only up 4lb for that. If Stoner’s Choice is near full fitness I expect him to be battling it out for a place at least in a good race.

Kempton 3.30

I think NOTEBOOK is clearly the one to beat here tackling fences for the first time. She had some progressive form over hurdles bar one blip at Sandown and capped off the season with a convincing win at Ffos Las. This looks a good starting point for her now going chasing and I think she can make a winning return for Nicky Henderson. Get The Appeal is likely to go forward under Harry Cobden and I think she might help set it up for the selection.

Alpha Carinae is the one I fear most as Olly Murphy is going great guns and like the selection she looks the type to do well over fences returning off the back of a wind op. Lost In Montmartre is fairly prominent in the betting too and did it well at Hereford but this has more strength in depth so she will definitely find it tougher.

Kempton 4.00

Not the best race to cap off the card with question marks over a few of these and AMELIA’S DANCE gets a tentative vote. She has been running well in mares events and on the back of her 8-length win last month she would have a decent chance in this weaker race. Her recent run at Hereford suggests she is capable of going well off 102 and I like her chances at a fair price.

Wise Glory was above average on the Flat but hasn’t quite done it over hurdles yet. This is his second run following a wind op so we will see just how good he is here and he could be a danger on the potential he brings to the table.
