Ascot 12.35

This race is very competitive as you would expect from a handicap where they are only split by 11lb. DARGIANNINI gets the vote after a great run when just losing out to An Tailliur who we quite like and it could make for good form. He improved with every run last season and could have plenty to come as his jumping improves. I would be disappointed if he wasn’t thereabouts in this race.

Earth Lord looks the biggest threat on his handicap debut after finally getting off the mark at Wincanton last month. Of the rest Jetaway Joey should run well in search of his hat-trick as an opening mark of 123 doesn’t look too taxing.

Ascot 12.35

Dargiannini 7/2

Ascot 1.10

This should be a good test and that can suit the improving NOTEBOOK who looked all about stamina when staying on well into second at Chepstow last time. The winner Ree Okka looks a nice prospect for Harry Fry so I think there is no reason to doubt the form. The front 3 came some 8 and a half lengths clear from the rest so it should work out well enough in time. He should relish this step up in trip here and with that experience under his belt he looks well placed to make the breakthrough.

Kincardine was said to be one of Nicky Henderson’s better novice hurdles before finishing third at Newbury. He can improve from that so shouldn’t be ruled out as he will be more streetwise now. City Chief might be a bigger danger though as he is well related and didn’t come cheap. Soldier Of Destiny could also be a nice type but probably needs time and experience.

Ascot 1.45

This looks another deep race with plenty of these taking big steps forward on their last runs and have the potential for a lot more. RED ROOKIE just lost out on his first run of the season over fences and will be better for that run. He was put up 6lb for the win but is very unexposed compared to a few of these and he will be bang there at the finish.

Brace Seasca like the selection has plenty to come after a 10 length win at Warwick last week. He is only up 7lb for that so has to be taken seriously. At a bigger price Amarillo Sky has a solid each way chance if in the same form as his win at Wincanton last month.

Ascot 1.45

Red Rookie 9/4

Ascot 2.20

Both Knappers Hill and JONBON put their unbeaten records on the line but it’s the latter I’m keen to side with following an impressive display to win as he liked on hurdles debut at Newbury. This is obviously much tougher but he looks a very exciting horse and clearly has a tall reputation. He still doesn’t look the finished article and the way he hit the line the last day he certainly doesn’t lack gears.

Knappers Hill is clearly a very nice horse himself so I’m certainly not underestimating him but this should give us a good idea of how good Jonbon could be going forward. I like To Move It has also impressed but I’ll be surprised if he can mix it with the top 2 here.

Ascot 2.20

Jonbon 4/5

Ascot 2.55

With only the 5 runners it does look like PIC D’ORHY’s race to lose if completing this time. He should really be 2 from 2 over fences this season but fell last month at Newbury when going well. They have found a nice race for him to make up for it and it would either take another fall or a big improver from the rest to get him beaten.

Faivoir has 7lb to find on official ratings but still rates the main danger with the potential for improvement at this level. The rest have a lot to find on figures so would need to really step forward to figure here.

Ascot 3.30

I try not to take too strong an opinion in bumpers but I do have one here as HENRI THE SECOND made a winning debut despite looking a big baby. He kept learning on the job and pulling out more and went right away from them in the closing stages. He should come on plenty for that experience and looks a lovely horse going forward. I know it’s hard to defy a penalty but he looks a useful prospect so it doesn’t surprise me to see him head the betting.

Top Dog only went down three quarters of a length at Cheltenham and that looked a good race so he has to be respected on that form. With further improvement he will give the selection a race. Authorised Speed best of the rest as he is also likely to come forward following an excellent and rather unlucky second on debut at Market Rasen.
