NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE US NAP (BEST BET) RUNS IN RACE 8 AT SANTA ANITA ON SATURDAY NIGHT!
Race 8 Santa Anita 12.06 Under The Stars (11/8)
Improving filly who stalked the pace before going away to win convincingly at Los Alamitos last month; scope to keep progressing and while this is tougher into a Grade 2 now she brings plenty of potential to the table.
This is a good renewal of the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes but I’m keen to side with UNDER THE STARS for Bob Baffert and Flavien Prat. She is a filly firmly on the upgrade judging by that impressive win at Los Alamitos last time. She is only going to improve from that and as strong as this field looks I do think she brings the most potential going forward. Big Switch is obviously 2-2 and looks the danger. She is yet to really be tested though and hasn’t faced anything of the calibre of the selection in my book so will need to improve more to remain unbeaten. It’s not just a two-horse race though as Awake At Midnyte finished in front of the selection on debut before going down a nose switched to turf last time. She is clearly talented but I think the selection can reverse that form now with experience on side.

Race 8 Gulfstream Park 8.37 Largent (11/8)
Tough sort who was only narrowly denied in the Pegasus World Cup Turf here last January, missing out by just a neck to Colonel Liam; form stacks up and this looks an ideal starting point for her before going on to better things.
With 3 wins from 5 starts last term and an overall record of 6 wins from 10 starts LARGENT looks a standout in the Tropical Turf Stakes at Gulfstream on Saturday night. He is a tough and likeable sort who doesn’t lack ability. He came within a neck of Grade 1 success here when last seen and given he has won both starts fresh he ticks plenty of boxes. Value Proposition is a decent yardstick and he won’t let him have it all his own way. He looks the danger but was beaten when last seen at Aqueduct and will need to better that to land a serious blow. Clear Vision has won 2 of his last 3 and is comfortably best of the rest if producing that sort of form again here but he definitely has enough to find with the top 2 so has to be vulnerable for win purposes. Hard to see anything else springing an upset.
