NAP – Best selection of the evening
Ludlow 2.20 Brief Ambition (11/8)
Likeable type who impressed making a winning start over fences at Kempton in November before following up in workmanlike fashion over C&D next time; freshened up since and well placed to make it 3-3 in this sphere.
I’m struggling to look past BRIEF AMBITION at Ludlow on Monday. He has taken well to chasing and with further improvement on the cards I think he can bring up the hat-trick and remain unbeaten over fences. He did make hard work of it in a match over C&D when last seen but Fergal O’Brien has given him time since to get over that and I think we’ll see a better performance this afternoon. Atholl Street hasn’t lived up to expectations and again was left standing at Kempton last time. He could still take a step forward but I have my reservations for now. That could leave Muckamore as the main danger as he is a decent yardstick and he bumped into a nice horse in Nocte Volatus at Huntingdon.

Hexham 1.30 Into Overdrive (11/8)
Came to life in the cheekpieces under more positive tactics to make it third time lucky over fences at Carlisle last time; 6lb rise doesn’t look enough to stop him if running to that sort of level again; he is the most likely winner.
With just the 7 starts under Rules and only 3 over fences the unexposed INTO OVERDRIVE looks set to follow up at Hexham on Monday. He responded well to the fitting of cheekpieces and seemed to enjoy himself racing prominently throughout last time. He remains open to further improvement so a 6lb rise doesn’t bother me. Wee Small Hours ran well when second to Destiny Is All at Ayr last time but I can see him doing that again behind the selection here. He isn’t getting any younger and has to be vulnerable for win purposes. Trevelyn’s Corn gets a 9lb swing with the favourite now but I still don’t think that will be enough to reverse the form. Dolly Dancer best of the rest but not one to trust.
