Super Bowl 55

SUPER BOWL 55 KICKS-OFF AT 11.30pm (UK time)

Game Spread – Kansas City Chiefs -3.5 | Game Total – 56 points

Super Bowl 55 is finally here and even without all the fans it is set to be a cracking game between two of the most exciting teams in the NFL.

This years Super Bowl takes place in Tampa At Raymond James Stadium making the Buccaneers the first team to play a Super Bowl at home. This is the 2nd meeting between these two this season with Kansas City coming to Tampa in week 12 of the regular season.

I don’t think you can pick a better quarterback match-up with the GOAT Tom Brady going against Patrick Mahomes who is the most likely quarterback in the the league right now who has a chance of getting anywhere near Brady’s records.

Tom Brady is going for his 7th Super Bowl win in 10 appearances which is incredible and Mahomes is already the youngest QB to go to back-to-back Super Bowls but he is also going for a franchise first of back-to-back wins. Mahomes has won 6 of 7 playoff games with the only loss coming to Tom Brady and the Patriots in overtime when he didn’t get a chance to win the game as New England won the toss.

And the icing on the cake is that CBS are covering the game so we have Tony Romo on commentary.
Key Stats
  • Kansas City are 25-2 – They have been incredible for over 2 seasons now and most teams can’t get near them as you can see by just the 2 losses in 27 games.
  • 8 of 12 games have gone over the total – Both teams have explosive offences so you can see why there combined record has 2 thirds of games going over the total.

Road to the Super Bowl

The Chiefs looked even better than last year locking up the AFC number 1 seed early. They made lighter work of the play-offs as well beating the Browns in a game where Mahomes got injured and then followed that up by brushing the Bills aside.

Tampa had to do it the hard way with 3 road games in the play-offs and in very different performances they beat Washington, Saints and Packers. They really showed how well coached they are in those games and you would expect they have big plans to trouble the Chiefs.

Week 12 Game

The Chiefs flew out the blocks in November going 17-0 up early on. Brady and the Buccs did make a comeback but the Chiefs had too much for them that day. Both quarterbacks threw for 3 touchdowns but Brady’s 2 INTs hurt the Buccs early.

There was yards galore with Mahomes throwing for 462 yard with Brady throwing for 345 yards. Mahomes threw 3 touchdowns to Tyreek Hill whilst Brady threw 2 to Evans and 1 to Ronald Jones.

Tampa as a team have improved since then winning every game since but Offense especially has improved a fair bit and if Antonio Brown is available after a knee injury he could bring them closer.

Talent

These teams are packed with talent and looking at the Pro Football Focus rankings The Chiefs dominated the top 5 players however the top 15 goes very much in favour of the Bucks with 10 of the top 15 players on their side.

Both teams are offence dominate with the Chiefs having some many explosive options at receiver including Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce who are often un-guardable but they also have plenty of options at running back. Darrel Williams was very good against the Bills and they have top class alternatives in Edwards-Helaire and potentially Le’Veon Bell.

The only downside is Eric Fisher getting injured against the Bills meaning it will be hard to protect Mahomes from Suh and Vea who will put as much pressure as possible on him.

Tampa are also stacked on offence with Evans leads the receiving core but Godwin really hit form in the Championship game they also have Scotty Miller and Antonio Brown (if available). Not forgetting Gronkowski who isn’t targeted as much as he was in New England but as a result gets a big play in most games. He could play a big part as KC really struggle against Tight Ends.

Super Bowl verdict and bets

Not that I like going against Tom Brady I just think the Chiefs have the edge overall and will get their 2nd Super Bowl in as many years. If Mahomes, Kelce and Hill are at their best they will be hard to stop.

Points look on the cards always when these two are involved so doubling this with the result at 9/4 looks a fair price.

With regards to touchdowns it is hard to overlook Hill scoring 3 times during the earlier match-up and I have backed him to score 2 or more at 10/3. From the Buccs side of the ball I think Gronk could be a decent price at 7/4 against a not so good Chiefs redzone defence.
