Glorious Goodwood 1.50 Unibet ’15 To Go’ Handicap (Class 2) 1m4f

It is 5/1 the field at the time of writing but I don’t think it is as competitive as the odds suggest. The two at the top of the market, both who were unlucky in the King George handicap at Ascot, look to have it between them. The edge I give to SISKANY who ran his best race so far in softer conditions going clear of the field at Sandown in May. He was hampered at Royal Ascot and still only finished just over a length behind the winner. With conditions to suit he should be right in the mix.

Nagano is the main danger. He was going for a hat-trick before being badly hampered in the same race as the selection at Royal Ascot. With a bit more luck in-running he will go very well. Of the rest Kolisi probably has the most to come on handicap debut and handles soft ground. Pleasant Man could also have more to come so looks best of the rest.

Goodwood 1.50

Siskany 5/1 each way

Glorious Goodwood 2.25 Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes (Fillies’ & Mares’ Group 3) (Class 1) 7f

This is really competitive and if the ground was better I’d definitely have chanced Lavender’s Blue. She isn’t certain to handle these testing conditions though so I’ve decided to pass her over again. SACRED has run once with cut in the ground and ran a cracker when denied just a length in the Lowther behind Miss Amulet. She impressed winning the Nell Gwyn at Newmarket in April and while she failed to back that up over a mile last time she wasn’t disgraced and back down to 7f I think she is a serious contender here.

Vadream has some really strong form in the book chasing home Creative Force in soft ground at Royal Ascot before shaping well in defeat when second to Light Refrain last time. She looks a danger to all but I wanted something at a bigger price for my second play in the race so ISABELLA GILES gets the vote. She recorded progressive form as a 2yo and while she hasn’t shown her best this campaign she has been highly tried and this is easier. We know she handles testing ground and I don’t think she should be as big as she is in the market.

Glorious Goodwood 3.00 Markel Molecomb Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) 5f

Not the best renewal of the Molecomb Stakes and I’m not sure how many will take their chance on what is likely to be heavy ground with not many have experienced it before. FEARBY looks a worthy favourite after winning a Listed event at Sandown in good style. It was on the softer side of good that day so conditions on Wednesday shouldn’t be a big issue for him. This Havana Gold colt has improved massively with every run and if in the same form or even improving again he is the one to beat.

Chipotle is a horse I rate highly and would be the danger but he did run his worst race so far on soft ground so it will be interesting to see if he runs. I’m not sure he was as unlucky as some claimed either last time. I have had a small each way interest in this as well at a big price on ARBOY WILL. He has plenty to find on ratings but was impressive in a handicap on heavy ground so he could capitalise facing a slow surface for the first time.

Glorious Goodwood 3.35 Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Class 1) 1m

Some superstars have won this down the years and Jim Bolger will be hopeful Poetic Flare can add his name to that list. This Dawn Approach colt ran out a seriously impressive winner of the St James’s Palace Stakes and he deserves to be a short priced favourite for this. My issue with him is the ground. If conditions continue to worsen it has to be a serious worry for him. I know he handles it but it certainly doesn’t see him to best effect. He could only finish midfield at Longchamp and was again turned over in the Irish Guineas on soft to heavy. I think it could exploit some chinks in his armour and so I’ve taken a chance on one at a bigger price.

Snow Lantern was mightily impressive in the Falmouth and she will likely attract good support for this but again the soft ground asks a different question and ALCOHOL FREE did have her measure on deep ground in the Coronation Stakes. I know she was third to Snow Lantern in the Falmouth last time but if the ground stays testing I see no reason why Alcohol Free can’t come out on top and 8/1 is a bit insulting. She’ll be ridden forward and will get first run and it might just be a bridge too far to peg her back in ground that will test stamina.

Glorious Goodwood 4.10 British Stallion Studs Alice Keppel EBF Fillies’ Conditions Stakes (GBB Race) (Class 2) 5f

This is one of the toughest races of the day to call with plenty of these untested on heavy ground and the ones that have run on it have performed poorly. With that said I am going to take a chance on LA FEILE each way as her debut at Beverley was in soft conditions and she won that nicely. She was short of room but when she got clear she went away showing a great attitude. She will obviously need to step forward for this but after 1 run she is entitled to come on a lot and could surprise at a decent price.

Flotus would have been my pick on good ground but even though she won on soft at Goodwood on debut she hated the heavy going at Royal Ascot so she is hard to fancy with any confidence at all. The dangers to the selection are most likely Canonized who needs to prove herself on soft ground and Anadora who handles soft but just needs to improve a bit to take this.

Goodwood 4.10

La Feile 9/1 each way

Glorious Goodwood 4.45 British EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap (Class 2) 1m2f

I’m keen to side with Night Of Thunder filly TIMELESS SOUL here for Roger Varian. She showed promising signs when third to Anghaam on debut at Haydock and quickly improved to beat Dancing To Win at Beverley. The form of that race has worked out since and while she could only finish third at Thirsk last month I don’t think that track really suited and she was never really on a going day having broke awkwardly and never really travelling with any conviction. She gets soft/heavy ground again here which will be ideal and going handicapping off a mark of 86 there should be further improvement to come.

Achelois has won 2 of her last 3 but I’m surprised she is as short as she is in the betting here. She has to prove herself up in trip and while she handles soft if it gets really testing that won’t be ideal. Percy’s Pride is on a hat-trick and I’d actually fancy her to give the selection a race over the fav. She is on the upgrade and should run well. Of those at bigger prices Kaleidoscopic might go better than her odds suggest under SDS.

Goodwood 4.45

Timeless Soul 4/1

Glorious Goodwood 5.20 World Pool Handicap (Class 3) 7f

A big field handicap to finish Day 2 of Glorious Goodwood and everything looks to be perfect for BE PREPARED to run a big race and hopefully make it the lucky last. He ran his best race so far on soft ground at Lingfield pulling well clear before following that up with a good third at Ascot. Kieran O’Neill is back onboard on Wednesday and with the heavy ground plus the low draw he looks to have a good chance in this at a double-figure price.

Of the rest it is hard to be sure what will handle the conditions best but another one at a decent price that will be dangerous is TINTORETTO who is a course and distance winner and seems to be pretty versatile regarding the ground. Given the shape of the race I’ve had an each way saver.
