1.45 Newmarket

I’m surprised Buick rides Hafit here as GOLDSPUR looked hugely promising on debut. He won by 6 and a half lengths at Sandown last month and created a big impression with how he lengthened away at the finish. I know he is being thrown in at the deep end here on just his second start but the step up in trip is only going to help him and with improvement a near certainty I think he can remain unbeaten. He is 9/2 at the time of writing and looks too big in the betting.

Hafit cost over £2 mil and is bred to be smart and has achieved a decent level of form in two starts. He held on well on debut and then bumped into a decent prospect in Triple Time last time. He is going to improve as well but I think the selection has greater potential off the back of that exciting debut. Unconquerable has attracted support and will also enjoy going up in trip.

2.02 York

The Rockingham is usually very competitive and this years renewal is no different. The vote goes to EVER GIVEN who is in such good form with his last 3 runs looking very good. He won over course and distance two starts ago and lost out by just a neck last time out over slightly further. Even his run behind Sacred Bridge at Naas looks strong. Back down to the standard 6 furlongs should see him as the one to beat.

Canonized comes out best at the weights after just missing out in a Group 3 at Ayr last month and is the main danger here. Of the rest Hellomydarlin could fill the places after running well behind the latter last time and usually runs her race. Witch Hunter is gradually getting the hang of things and is also worth a mention.

2.20 Newmarket

I backed COROEBUS for the Royal Lodge at 14/1 and he has to go down as one of the unluckiest losers I think I’ve ever seen at Newmarket! He quickened away from them before being reeled back in and nailed on the line. When he went past Royal Patronage that rival looked cooked so credit to him for knuckling down and coming back. I just think inexperience cost the selection on the day and he should be a lot more streetwise now. He sets the standard on that run anyway and really should be winning this.

Imperial Fighter made a winning debut at Goodwood and ran well when second to Royal Patronage (who beat Coroebus last time) in the Acomb so has to be considered as the main danger to the favourite. Dubai Poet looks promising having improved to win easily at Newbury. This is obviously tougher but he could have a bright future as well.

2.37 York

Going through the trends for this race it was interesting to see that no winner has carried over 9 stone 4 pounds which is interesting when it comes to Bay Bridge (9-6) and Sinjaari (9-12). As a result I am going to side with FAISAL who is 3 wins from 4 starts and off a mark of 99 has a good chance of going close here. He just missed out at Doncaster on fast ground and I think he will be a lot more at home on the forecast ground on Saturday and is good value against the favourite.

Bay Bridge may be carrying plenty 9 stone 6 but he could still prove to be a class above these if overcoming a 15lb rise from his last run and will be dangerous to all. With that rise in weight and the layoff though it makes the selection a strong play at a price that represents great value.

2.55 Newmarket

The unbeaten NATIVE TRAIL is going to be really hard to beat in this years Dewhurst. This Oasis Dream colt is a perfect 3-3 and looked a bit special with the way he won the National Stakes in Ireland last time. He thrashed the previously unbeaten Point Lonsdale and clocked a monster speed figure in the process. He has the potential to go right to the top and should have too much for these rivals as good as this field could potentially be. I know his price doesn’t give much away but I can’t oppose.

The fav is 8/11 at the time of writing but he could go off very short and if he does I might have a small saver on GLOUNTHAUNE and might even back him to finish second. He showed a cracking attitude to win on debut at the Curragh and is only going to improve from that. He beat a really good yardstick in Castle Star and it’s interesting they are pitching him in such a good race on just his second start. I think he is great value to beat both Straight Answer and Bayside Boy.

3.15 York

This race is competitive as ever with the maximum field of 22 set to go to post and it is 8/1 the field at the time of writing. The lower draw tends to be better over the years which is a big negative for Gulliver who goes in 21. The only shining light is there is a lot of pace amongst the high draws. I quite like CAPOTE’S DREAM who is on a hat-trick here after two short-head wins. He has only just done enough in those runs and only goes up 4lb as a result. With a course and distance win 2 runs back he looks a solid each way bet in a wide open race.

The other bet I am having in the race is COMMANCHE FALLS who missed out on a hat-trick in a good race at Ayr last time out won by Bielsa and gets a pound back from the handicapper as a result. He has pace all around him and will come with a big run late. Laugh A Minute didn’t get much room when fourth at the Curragh last time and is off the same mark so is feared. Magical Spirit, Mr Wagyu and at a bigger price Popmaster complete the shortlist. I actually might have chanced the latter if he had a better draw.

Newmarket 3.35

Willie Mullins has won the last 3 renewals of the Cesarewitch and has a strong team lining up again. His main chance looks to be M C Muldoon is the market proves on the money but I prefer BURNING VICTORY at a bigger price. She is a classy mare who of course won the Triumph when Goshen came down at the last. She has since won on the Flat in France before performing creditably in the Galway Hurdle and then getting back in the winners enclosure on the level at Deauville in August. She is quite high in the weights but they will go hard here and it could be run to suit. I can see her going close under Buick.

Given the nature of the race I have also backed BUZZ near the top of the market. He did well on the Flat for Hughie Morrison and has achieved a very good level of form over hurdles for this yard in recent times. He is back on the level now off what looks a fair mark and has Oisin Murphy booked. Conditions should be ideal and I think he can go close. He has a smart turn of foot so if he gets carried into the race he could utilise that late. Finally GREAT WHITE SHARK is also worth a punt. This mare came powering through to win this by 3 lengths last year and even off a 10lb higher mark I think she is going to run huge. She has been kept fresh and has clearly been targeted at this. 25/1 is a bit insulting for a horse that has been there and done it.
