Del Mar 5.15

A pretty average race to kick off the big night at Del Mar but ONE FAST BRO gives us a good chance a winning start. He doesn’t have the scope for improvement of some these but consistently runs well with form of 2212 in decent races. The level of his form would be good enough to win this and I think stall 1 will let him get into the perfect position with plenty of closers in here.

Offlee Naughty is interesting as he ran three average races before putting down one of the best time figures around to win his maiden. Hard to tell if that was a fluke or he stepped forward massively so keep an eye on him in the market.

Del Mar 5.15

One Fast Bro 5/2

Del Mar 5.50

Locally Owned came out on top at Belmont last time but LONE ROCK had a tough trip on that occasion and his previous form makes him a very good bet to turn the tables. He had won 4 in a row prior to that length defeat and I think he is worth chancing to bounce back here. His win over Tizamagician in a Grade 2 back in the summer was mightily impressive and if he gets back to that sort of form they won’t see which way he goes.

Tizamagician actually came out an won his next start to frank the form but has been beaten twice since. He ran at the top level last time though so will find this easier. He is respected but I think the selection should have his measure. Zestful arrives in good form and might not be all that far away either.

Del Mar 5.50

Lone Rock 5/4

Del Mar 6.25

This looks a good renewal of the Goldikova Stakes with some really good fillies in here. GOING GLOBAL has been superb since coming over from Ireland with form figures of 111121. The second placed finish she was bumped in the run and still only went down just half a length. She clearly goes well at the track and for me she is the one to beat with solid Grade 1 form. She is still unexposed and there should be a fair bit more to come yet. Hopefully she’ll be finishing best of all here.

Princess Grace is favourite at the time of writing after winning 4 in a row producing some good time figures on the way. She will be in the mix for sure but I think the selection has the form edge even if Princess Grace could still be improving. Zofelle may well be the value to hit the frame.

Del Mar 7.05

All eyes will be on Gamine here who has won 9 of her 10 starts. She is hard to oppose when you sound out her form like that but even so BELLA SOFIA is exciting herself. She has won 4 from 5 and really impressed with how she found off the bridle to win last time. She was mightily impressive in the Grade 1 Test Stakes at Saratoga prior to that and while Gamine sets the standard this filly looks progressive and she might improve past her on this occasion. 5/2 looks great value and I’m making her the play against the odds-on favourite who might be a bit vulnerable late.

It does look between the front pair and the betting has it right regarding the rest with Ce Ce the best of them. She has won 2 of her last 3 beating Estilo Talentoso at Gulfstream before going down to Gamine at Saratoga. Hard to see how turning the tables with the latter so should run well without being good enough.

Del Mar 7.05

Bella Sofia 5/2

Del Mar 7.40

This doesn’t appear to have much depth but the tactics can sometimes cause upsets in this race. EMARAATY ANA should be suited by this race and his form is amongst the best available especially when you factor in the ground. He ran a cracker to finish second in the Nunthorpe ahead of the favourite in this race Golden Pal. He followed that up beating Starman at Haydock over 6 furlongs in the Group 1 Sprint Stakes. He will be able to stalk the pace and should go close.

Golden Pal might find this less of a challenge to hold a lead compared to York against Winter Power. He is clearly going to make a good go of it from the front and won’t be easy to peg back but the selection will hopefully be poised throughout. A Case Of You ran a cracker to win l’Abbaye but I am not sure he is suited by this fast ground. The same can be said for Glass Slippers.

Del Mar 8.19

I’d probably say LIFE IS GOOD is my most confident pick of the night but due to price I couldn’t make him my NAP as he is trading at around 8/11 at the time of writing. He is a smart colt who has won 4 of his 5 starts. He powered clear again to win head in chest last time and looks to have gears. His only defeat came to Jackie’s Warrior (our NAP later tonight) and that colt looks seriously talented so he lost little in defeat. He remains open to further improvement and should have too much for these rivals.

Silver State looks the danger. He won 6 in a row prior to finishing third behind Knicks Go and Maxfield in the Whitney. That is top-class form but I was a bit disappointed to see him beaten a head by Mind Control last time. If back to his best here he will give the selection some sort of a race. The improving Ginobili looks to be best of the rest and should also run well.

Del Mar 8.19

Life Is Good 8/11

Del Mar 8.59

The Europeans have sent plenty over for this and I think LOVE could cap off a below par season with a nice win in this. She won the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Ascot on fast ground this year but other than that she wasn’t at her peak. They had a prep run for the Arc where she only just lost out giving a rival 9lb. She missed the Arc but she is obviously in good form as was entered in the Breeders’ Cup Turf but was taken out so some of the colts from the yard can get a run. If near her best she will win this.

War Like Goddess is the main danger with 6 wins from 7 and a nice Grade 1 win at Saratoga last time. Loves Only You is another who could go well but might have a bit to find with the other two. Rougir won a Group 1 in France last time getting up late and could be the dark horse coming in here but probably does need to step forward to figure.

Del Mar 9.38

I can’t wait to see JACKIE’S WARRIOR at Del Mar tonight. He is a colt going places and I loved the attitude he showed under pressure to fend off Life Is Good at Saratoga on penultimate start. He improved again to win head in chest at Philadelphia last time and with the promise of more to come again he gets a confident vote to see these off from the front. He has early speed to burn so should bounce out the gates, get on the speed, and hopefully not see another rival.

Dr. Schivel looks the danger for Mark Glatt. This colt has won 5 in a row now and won despite his right rein breaking at Saratoga last month. His form certainly stacks up and after just 7 starts will have more to come as well. He will concede first-run to the fav though and it’s not going to be easy to peg back such a talented horse. Following Sea best of the rest but does look held by the selection.

Del Mar 10.20

One of the races of the night with some top European horses in here going against MO FORZA who has been trained for this race again after missing out last year. He finished both of his races strongly this year to make it 4 wins in a row. He hasn’t won by big margins but has done it easier than the distance suggests. This is a higher level than his form but his trainer has been stepping him up all season leading up to this and he will run a big race and at a decent price.

Space Blues is the main danger on his recent form with nice wins in England and France. He should be fine at a mile but I just have the feeling the American horse could be better value. I will have a saver on MOTHER EARTH who was too far back on Champions Day but still ran on really well. This race could really suit her and on her best form she has to be involved under Ryan Moore. Master Of The Seas has an inside draw and also has to be considered.

Del Mar 11.00

I’ve been with Letruska all season and it wasn’t easy opposing her here but I just think she is a bit short in the betting and she has been on the go since April. She has won 10 times from 14 starts in that time frame and will have a ton of supporters tonight but I think the value might lay elsewhere. MALATHAAT is a progressive filly and she only ever seems to do just enough so comes here fresher than most. She has won 6 of her 7 starts with that sole defeat coming when she got racing early and only missed a head. She should get a lovely toe in here and I can see her edging ahead in the dying strides.

Letruska is obviously the one to catch but Private Mission is likely to go forward as well so the pair could take each other on. Royal Flag has won 2 of her last 3 and could be a danger to the selection. Horologist is a monster price but her form ties in with the latter so she might be one to back on the Each Way Extra.

Del Mar 11.40

A race that favours the Europeans and TARNAWA has a great chance of retaining her crown in this race after defeating Magical last year. She was last seen going so close to winning the Arc and if it wasn’t heavy ground she may have won it. She gets firm ground again here and she is the one they all have to beat. Dermot Weld has sounded so bullish in the run up to this year’s Breeders’ Cup and I’ll be surprised if she is beaten. She has a potent turn of foot and that should see her a cut above this field.

Teona really stepped forward at Longchamp last time to beat Snowfall but it is hard to tell if she can back that up here. YIBIR could be the danger now a change of headgear and tactics seems to have got the best out of him and he could still be improving. His Jockey Club Derby win was good and if stepping up again from that he will go well so I’ve had an each way saver as I can’t see him out the frame.

Del Mar 12.40

It’s the big one to close the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic. I’ve probably sided with heart over head here but something is telling me we’re going to see a monster performance from the loveable KNICKS GO for Brad Cox. I say heart over head as everything in this race tactics-wise is telling me it is going to be set up for Essential Quality. He is a massive danger but what is Knicks Go is just too good on the night? He will go forward and I know we are likely to face pace pressure from Medina Spirit and possibly even Art Collector but if we get the lead and dictate it could be race over. He has won his last 3 by a combined 19 lengths and on his day is a bit special.

Essential Quality has won 8 of his 9 starts and is a seriously promising colt but he could face a gruelling test to try and peg back this favourite. Hot Rod Charlie has won both starts since going down to the latter in the Belmont Stakes and certainly isn’t out of it. Max Player will be looking to close up late and might be the value play to hit the frame.
