Taunton 12.15
It’s a shame Rhebus Road is a non runner as I thought he had a big chance! It’s quite open now and I’ve decided to chance JUST GO FOR IT for trainer Mitchell Hunt. This Passing Glance mare made the breakthrough emphatically by 19 lengths at Hereford in February. She was beaten up 7lb at Wincanton when last seen but wasn’t disgraced and has had a wind op since. She makes her debut for this yard and should have more to come now.
Mi Laddo has been in top form and whilst he might not be the best handicapped but his experience and great run of form could see him be a danger to all here. Brianna Rose also deserves respect but has been a drifter this morning.
Taunton 12.45
This looks a great chance for GRAYSTONE to follow up. He stayed on strongly to win by 7 lengths under Bryony Frost at Warwick earlier this month and with the promise of more to come he should take all the beating. The interesting one in opposition is Irish Hill on debut for Paul Nicholls but he lacks experience. I can see him shaping well but he may well come on for it and might always be playing second fiddle to the favourite.
Brainstorm won a claiming hurdle in France but was pulled up on debut for this yard at Auteuil when last seen 5 months later so has enough to prove at present. The Hood has been nibbled at but was a maiden on the Flat and is best watched for now at least.
Taunton 1.15
This looks a good renewal of this novice hurdle with LAST ROYAL looking to bounce back after a fall at Huntingdon when last seen. He was travelling well before coming down and would have gone close that day. He ran really well at Chepstow on his seasonal reappearance before that finishing 3rd and I think he is primed to win a race at this level.
Brave Kingdom was last seen in Grade 2 company when a beaten favourite. He is the class act in the field but does give the selection weight. The form of his precious wins look good and he will certainly be dangerous. Phillip Hobbs has won this race plenty of times so I wouldn’t be surprised if Moviel took a big step forward and was competitive here at a bigger price.
Taunton 1.50
Mille Sussurri ran well when second to the promising Scene Not Herd at Hereford on debut over fences. He stepped forward again when denied just a length at Uttoxeter. He should have more to come up 3lb but this is competitive and he is short enough. I’m going to chance BANGERS AND CASH for Ben Pauling. He is lightly raced and ran really when denied just 4 lengths on return at Exeter. That form looks really solid and with more to come on chase debut he could take a bit of pegging back.
Mille Sussurri does look the biggest danger but Velasco also has to be feared with the hood and tongue strap reapplied. LILLY PEDLAR has been pulled up the last twice but it wouldn’t surprise me if she bounced back and she might be worth a small saver at a monster price.
Taunton 2.25
It is nice to have a listed event on the card and it looks a hotly contested race. Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson have good records in the race and will likely have a big say here with the preference for Henderson’s AHORSEWITHNONAME. She was 2nd on her last two runs but she was beating by 2 horses that I feel are better than this level so the form looks solid. She likely has more to come and will be bang there in this race.
Paul Nicholls runs Rainyday Woman who has won her last two hurdle races comfortably and this race looks the next logical step. She will be a danger to all and was only narrowly passed over for the selection. Game On For Glory is 2 from 2 over hurdles with easy wins and is a player here but I quite like Uncanver to fill the places.
Taunton 3.00
With two promising efforts over fences so far I think this looks a good opportunity for VALUE TIP to open his account in this sphere. He did well to finish as close as he did last time given the mistakes he made and if he brushes up his jumping here he looks well handicapped off a mark of 88. This longer trip should suit and this looks easier than the company he has been facing recently.
The Boat justified strong support to make the breakthrough at Market Rasen but the first-time cheekpieces looked a catalyst for improvement and they are not certain to work again up 2lb. I’d also doubt his stamina over this longer trip which makes him opposable. Eaton Miller looks the danger but he fell when last seen at Wetherby and has enough to prove himself on return against the selection.
Taunton 3.30
With not much 3 mile form on offer here I am going to take a chance on SOME DETAIL at a nice each-way price. He ran really well over the extended 3 miles at Hereford in October and is now off a 2lb lower mark. If repeating that performance he outrun his odds especially has he should be pretty fit after 3 runs on the flat.
Tip Top Cat is the danger seeking his hat-trick with a step-up to 3 miles. He ran really well at this trip behind Imphal in October and will be a threat to the whole field as he is clearly on the upgrade.
